If you are 100% sure that the fan is OK , that the fan wiring is OK , and the fan is not starting when CPU gets over the critical temperature, then you have a faulty motherboard.

What happens is that the motherboard has either a defective temp sensor, or there is a broblem on motherboard cooling system socket.

To test the socket you just test that there is voltage in it .

To test the thermic sensor you connect a couple of different fans that you know are working to the motherboard, if they do not start, then the sensor is bad.

Motherboard are considered not serviceable at component level, if you have this kind of fault, then replace the motherboard.

The problem is however quite unusual , I have seen this happening (fan not starting up because of faulty MB) only a couple of times in my career.

Ensure first that you have not broken cooling fan contacts on wiring or connector, and that the fan is starting properly.

Also ensure you have used coolant paste between CPU surface and cooling system.

If windows start Download SpeedFan
to test your CPU temp.

Do not forget to rate the solution .

Many thanks.

As you have replaced the motherboard I don't see why the fan wouldn't run. Is it wired correctly? 3 pins I assume, check that they are connected properly.

So you have replaced both, the motherboard and the fan?

If everything is wired properly the fan is not getting power from the motherboard. a work around would be to get power to the fan elsewhere, for example from usb port. USB gives +5, usb pinout
http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml

other possibility would be to wire the fan to the motherboard so that it gets the required voltage. Thats a bit more advanced modification and if you decide to do such modification note that it will void any warranty you have and you will need to find a proper source for the voltage and then wire the ground to a general ground that goes to the battery.

That is possibly dangerious modification, maybe directly to battery contacts.

try that at your own risk.

IT happen with me , its the fan problem again, make sure when you put the heatsink on top the cpu, this fan should be hooked well and locked well, if you its not hooked on top the cpu you well it causes this problem. also make sure that you putted the thermal glue on top of cpu before you connected the heat sink, also make sure that the heat sink fan works fine.

Best Regards

  • If it gets too hot and shut down this is only cause when heat sink is not connected well, so the cpu shut down your computer in order not to be crached, but if i check it and its not hot , this means there is lack of power comes to your board, and this means the power supply is not giving enough current, so check your board how much dc it needs, or check coz some boards need another dc connector in order to boat up.

    Hope for you the best

If the first one burt out, it would make sense that there is a cooling issue. It would make sense to see why it got that hot before continuing, you may have some dead or dying cooling fans. Have you checked to see if all the fans work and the processor fan and heatsink are working.Don't keep messing with it or you will fry the processor and the ram, aside from the board.

Hi!

Have you overclocked your motherboard? Is the heat sink connected fine?

Please go to bios settings and see the fan settings.

After powering on monitor says no sync

I've almost the same problem. When the system turns on the monitor doesn't sync. After a variable trials with down/up the sync is enabled and the computer starts.A very clear event occurs : when the monitor can''t sync ( and system doesn't boot)you can hear very clear a high fan rotation. When I look/hear in the system the Isuspect the cpu fan. The system boots ( monitor syncs) when the fan rotationgoes from high to low. So the system hangs on an internal check on the rotation speed of the cpu fan.I've googled a lot , but until now doesn't find an answer . Possibilties which I think about : replace cpu fan , clean cpu fun ( but it looks clean).I cannot measure the fan rotation speed when the system is hanging. At normal rotation all info can retrieved witth the program cpu-z.Did you already have a solution ?

Disconnect the drive and try to boot to the BIOS (usually with F1, F2 or Delete key). If that doesn't work, try removing all cards from the computer (except a video card if the video port is not on the motherboard). If you can boot this way, try inserting back any removed cards to see what hangs it. Do you hear any beeps when the computer is booting (beep codes)?

Actually it boots, just that you don't see it. Try using another monitor - even a tv will do: disconnect the present monitor, connect the new one and reboot. If you get an image then the monitor is dead, replace it. If you don't then the onboard video card id dead, get a new one and try again. If even now it.s dead then you need a new motherboard.

It may be the clogged fan that caused this problem then resulted to overheat. possibly you need to replace the motherboard. or first, try using a bootable cd to boot your pc up. it may also be an issue with your hard drive not booting up.

I recently had a new power supply installed in my compaq presario SR1318NX, now the fans run almost constantly. The air from the fans does not feel hot, nor does the tower. Is this serious?

Hi,

In a desktop computer the fan is supposed to run constantly otherwise the processor would get that hot the system would repeatedly shut down or even damage the processor or motherboard.

If the fan is noisy then chances are that the fan blades need cleaning of dust.

Other than that you have nothing to worry about.

Regards.
