Go to Control panel - System - hardware and check to see if the device is listed there?

Firstly, you should check if the drive is listed in the devicemanager.

To find the devicemanager right click my computer and select manage.

If it is there, but with an arror that it cannot start it is most likely a software issue. to fix it:

Got to Run on the startmenu. And type regedit.
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class.
Go to the first folder that starts with {4D36...
Delete UpperFilters and LowerFilters.
Reboot the unit.

If this doesnt fix the issue, or the drive is not listed in the device manager. Check if you can run booteble CDs. if you can you should try running system recovery. you can do that by pressing F11 at the HP logo when booting.

You can also try removing the screw holding it in place. And removeing and reconnecting the drive. Make sure you push it all the way in when you do.

If this doesnt work the unit will need a new drive or mainboard. And you should send it in for service.

You might want to enter BIOS on your computer and check if it's enabled from there. To get to BIOS you usually have to press either F1 or F2 on boot screen.

I can't get my DVD to play movies in my latitude d610 computer

You may need to install WinDVD , Interactual Video player, or some similar video player software. The drive will read data CD's and DVD's with Windows , but it needs video codecs (supplied with the video player software) to play DVD movies and media.

My computer says that it has Cyberlink DVD 9 on it. But I can't play any DVDs on it. What shall I do?

First, gotta make sure you have a DVD drive, most modern computers do: DVD, DVD/ CD-RW, or DVD-RW drives are commonplace these days. If you have a DVD drive and it doesn't play anything, then more than likely you have a defective drive (DVD drives not working with DVD discs is a fairly common type of failure - insofar as failures go).

To be absolutely certain, try playing an original, commercial DVD movie - one that you know is good - if it still doesn't play it then it is, in all likelihood, a failed DVD drive.

I can't play movies on my IBM 2002 Laptop computer. The message 'can't open dvdsimple://D:' keeps coming up.

Hi there !

If you are playing DVD on DVDROM drive, I believe the DVD you are using is damaged because improper copying or burning it might cause damage to DVD. or it does not burn good at all. Or the DVD you are using from the beginning is damaged.

Another is if the DVD have too much scratches that it is difficult for the DVDROM drive to read it. It i will pop up an error reading the DVD.

If you are using windows media player (Not using DVD or CD), I believe the movie you are playing does not support the codec in the media palyer you are using. Try to download VLC player and it is free to download thru websearch.

I hope it solves your problem

My CD ROM's Auto-load/Auto-exe is not working. I put in CD software and it doesn't load it. I put in a DVD movie and it doesn't auto-play.

Enabling AutoPlay in Windows XPEnable through Windows Explorer
  1. Open My Computer or Explorer
  2. Right-click the CD-ROM drive or other drive and click Properties.
  3. Click the AutoPlay tab. Within this section you will be able to specify all Windows AutoPlay features.

Cant play movies from my toshibia laptop

Hi:
There are several reasons why a movie won't play, so I will run a few suggestions by you:

Hopefully ;you have a DVD drive or a DVD RW drive ?

If you insert a DVD or CD into the drive, your computer should recognize that a disk is inserted. If not the drive might be bad

You must have some sort of Software installed to make movies play, such as WinDVD, or PowerDVD

My DVD not reading DVD movie CD

Is it not reading the disk or not playing DVD movies? If you put a DVD data disk and it reads, then the drive is fine. If it just wont play movies, youre missing a DVD decoder (such as PowerDVD). Try testing other DVD disks and post your findings.

Can't READ or PLAY CD/DVD in DVD drive

Many laptops allow you to detach the CD/DVD drive - if this is the case for your laptop, perhaps it is slightly loose, or been removed by Safely Remove Hardware. You could try physically taking the drive out, and putting it back in, and that might do the trick.
