Scanning I am trying to scan pictures into my computer but when I try the scan button I get an error message telling me to shut off then retry, I've done this numerous times, it seems ever since Vista came on that is when the trouble started. I am trying to scan pics for a school reunion.

Scanner unit has failed. It costs as much to replace it as a new printer.

When trying to scan a photo from the c7280 to the computer the printer displays the following error message No Scan Options : refer to documentation and troubleshoot. This is not covered in my printer...

That's because it's not a printer problem. The scan options are in your computer in the scanning software for your machine. Before you can scan you need to be connected to your computer with scan software running to tell it how to scan, what you're scanning, and where to send and save the image you scan.

When I press Scan on my Brother MFC440CN, I get an error message ''Check Connection''. I just want to scan a picture to card, which I did many times without an issue.

instead of scanning using the button on the machine try it from the computer. Brother normally gives the control center program, you can find it in all programs in the brother folder. you should be able to scan from here. if not there is probably a connection problem from the printer to the computer

Since you have the latest driver and software from the HP site, you should completely Uninstall the software from your computer.

Then you may need to add an environment variable to your system. If you are using Vista, click on Start, right-click on computer and select Properties then click on Advanced system settings. If you are using XP, click on Start then right-click on My Computer.

On the System Properties dialog, select the Advanced tab and click on Environment Variables. Look for a variable named devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices. If it is not in either the user or system variables list, clock on the New... button for either list and add this variable name and give it a value of 1. Click on OK to close the dialog boxes.

Open up Device Manager. In the View menu, select the Show hidden devices option (there should be a checkmark next to it). This will reveal additional devices in the list. Open up the Printers node and make sure your printer is no longer listed here. If it is, right-click on it and select Uninstall. Disconnect your printer from the computer and reboot the computer.

Once the computer reboots, reinstall the HP drivers and software making sure you don't reconnect the printer until the installation wizard tells you to. Retest to make sure everything is working correctly.
