Question about Brother IntelliFAX 4100 Laser Fax

Half inch black line down middle of sent & copies -is NOT SCANNER

Problem on outgoing faxes or copies, but not on "Help" pages printed from the device, or on incoming faxes. Followed advice from other user: "That made us suspect first the scanning glass had dirt or white-out on it - but even after we cleaned the bits of dirt from it, we still had black lines. So next we suspected the scanner lamp. To test it, we started a copy and in the middle of its pulling a page through the ADF, we popped open the ADF a bit to see there was a section of the scanner lamp burned out when it lit up." Their's had a matching burned out section on the scanner. OUR SCANNER WAS PERFECT GREEN LIGHT ALL THE WAY ACROSS. I have tried the "Unplug the power cord. Put your finger on the menu key first and then plug the unit back up until the machine says Maintenance. The unit will beep and all of the lights will flash. Let the menu key go and press 82 and the unit will say machine error. There will be a number, if it says 00 there is no error. Press stop and then press 55, the machine will " say scanner area set" this will reset your scanner.If the machine says scanner error, there is a problem with your scanner and it will need to be serviced. To exit out of maintenance press stop and then 99, Try making copies again and verify any improvement." There was no improvement!

The scanner will give you problems only when you send not receiving or incomings, it sounds like your corona wire and the grid needs to be clean this is part of the drum unit with a cute tip (you will need more than one) pull out the image unit and toner it's two pieces in one. you can clean the corona wire (corona wire is the thin wire that charge the drum unit with a positive charge located at the center of the drum unit and is thinner than a human hair and under that you will see the grid make sure all that section is cleaned. if you have compress air will help)
in my opinion you whent to far trying to check some other things that are not necesary.

Outgoing fax was received as blank


Hello,

Make sure that you sent the fax face down.
If all your faxes are sent blank, there may be a problem with the scanner. Try making a photo copy placing the page face down, if your copy comes out blank then the scanner is finished.

If your photocopy does not come out blank then the problem is on the other end and not your machine.

Copy and faxes come out with a black line on the left side about an inch from the side.


If your INCOMING faxes have the same black line as your copies then the problem lies in the toner cartridge. A line on OUTGOING faxes and copies would suggest something on the scanner glass. This is a small strip of glass under the cover where your originals are fed into. Another way of testing is to run a report from the operation panel. If a report generated from the machine is ok then it is the scanner glass. If the report has a line then it is in the toner cartridge.

Faxes coming in print fine but outgoing faxes people are saying are coming out blank on their end


If outgoing faxes are turning up blank on the recipients end, you may be putting the paper to be faxed in backwards. Outgoing faxes should be sent face-down. If you are sending properly, either your scanner is failing (test it by copying a document) or the recipient is having fax issues on their end.

Black line going down the middle of the page


lift the auto feeder and clean the scanner glass that your pages scan across -it is dirty. You can make a copy afterward and this will tell you if you have solved the problem.

I bet your incoming pages are clean right? The Laser is not used for outgoing faxes.
Lift up your document feeder and clean the scanner glass that the documents are scanned across

Outgoing faxes are black.


just copy a paper if copy is black ur scanner is dirty or dead .first clean scanner with tissue other wise change it.if copy is ok result not black that is due to telephone line.by mian jee

Do your incoming faxes have the same marks?
If not you might find that the scanning part of your machine has a dirty mark on the glass or that the unit has become faulty.
Try and take a copy from the machine and print from a report or any print from memory.
If you have the black lines on both then i'd suggest getting a new drum unit, if u have it only on the copy I would have a look at your scanner glass and see if there is a dirty mark on it. if not maybe call out an engineer as the scanner unit maybe faulty.

Solid Blank Line


If it's blank, is this on what you send/recieve?

Also if you print something like a status sheet, is it missing on those too? If so, your print head needs replacing.

If its on copies/sents you need to clean the scanner head.
