Sony DVD-ROM BLACK SATA INTERFACE DVD Drive

Need Sony DVD-ROM Help

By paulrmc - usenet poster

Just tried my DVD drive for the first time and it does not recognize a DVD.
It spins up but the drive does not recognize it and I get a message that
says "Please Insert A Disk Into The Drive", It works fine for data and audio
CD's but as far as DVD's go, they don't exist. Any ideas? Using Windows XP
Pro and the drive is a Sony DVD-ROM DDU 1612.

Thanks for your thoughts and the help but I do have the latest version of
both PowerDVD and WinDVD installed on my computer. After extensive searching
on the internet, I have found a lot of people are having this problem for
which no one seems to have an answer. Even the XP DVD troubleshooter
identifies this exact problem but ends by stating that they have no help for
this problem. That is why I thought I would post here and hope someone had a
possible work-around solution.

Microsoft offers a patch for this problem but suggest that you don't use it
unless you really have to. (Go Figure). They state that people with this
problem should be patient and wait for the full SP2 upgrade which they claim
will solve the problem. I really don't watch DVD's buy do like everything on
my computer to function as intended.

Yours is an OEM player and comes without software. You will need a programme
such as Power DVD to be able to watch movies.
