Blue screen of death

I get a blue screen of death when I turn my PC on. What are some steps I can take to solve the problem and check it doesnt happen again?

Sophie, Sorry you're having to fight with the BSOD. The trick to resolving these without reinstalling Winders is to capture the code at the bottom.

When the BSOD appears look at the bottom of the screen for a whole heck of a lot of numbers that look something like OOxOOOOOO (OOxOOOOOO, etc...).Write those bad boys down, and then slap them into a google search. the values provided by those numbers are indicators of exactly what blew chunks during the boot up.

Another way to track this down is to press F8 during boot up and select the step by step confirmation method of loading windows. What this will allow you to do is to confirm Yes or No on whether Windows should load each driver while booting up. Make note of each driver you are allowing as you do this. Then you will know which one is causing the BSOD. On a subsequent boot, you can say "NO" on that driver, and then deal with the issue once Winders loads.
