Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

Can't find replacement light bulb:refrigerator model ET18DKXWW00.

I have a whirlpool refrigerator model ET18DKXWW00. One of the light bulbs burned out - I took the bulb to the hardward store and got a 40 W bulb to replace it.
This light bulb does not work in the refrigerator. (It works in the hardware store so I know the bulb is good. Also the wiring to the bulb socket is fine since the remaining bulb works in both sockets.)

Where do I get a light bulb that will work? I note that there are replacement part stores on the internet - the bulbs are $2.95 but shipping is at least $7.95! Plus I don't know if these bulbs will work in my refrigerator.

Your problem may be in the bulb receptacle or the light switch.
If you have a voltmeter, let me know and I will tell you how to check it.

Light bulb replacement what size? cannot find one to fit

Most appliance take a standard bulb similar to this:

http://www.reliableparts.com/product/inv_240436702/Appliance-Light-Bulbs-461460

My experience is that most stores with a lighting section will stock replacement bulbs for ovens and refrigerators. The best thing to do is to removed the burnt out bulb and take it along with your to the store to make sure you match the replacement.

According to your manual your interior light is a 40 watt appliance bulb.

Trust this is helpful.

How to change the light bulb

Hi

Not all bulbs will fit your refrigerator. Be sure to replace the bulb with one of the same size, shape and wattage. On some models, the dispenser light requires a heavy duty 10-watt bulb. All other lights require a 40-watt bulb.

1. Unplug or disconnect power from your refrigerator.

2. Remove light shield when applicable.
NOTE: To clean the ligt shield, wash it with warm water and liquid detergent. Be sure to dry the shield thoroughly before installing.

3. Remove the light bulb and replace it with the same size, shape and wattage.

4. Replace light shield when applicable.

HOW TO CHANGE THE LIGHT BULB IN THE REFRIGERTOR

Hi,

To change a light bulb in the refrigerator, remove the plastic cover that covers the light bulb. This cover should just pop off by simply squeezing the cover gently. Look at the bulb to see how many watts it is and the type of bulb you can buy a new bulb at any home improvement centre. Insert the new light bulb and replace the cover.

If the light on the refrigerator is not working after changing the bulb, unplug the refrigerator. Using a screwdriver, gently pop out the push-button collar on the inside side wall of the refrigerator. There will be two wires connected to the push button switch. Remove the two wires and replace the switch. You can purchase this part at any appliance repair centre that carries parts. Make sure you write down the model and make of your refrigerator and take the information with you before attempting to purchase parts.

How to change light bulb in refrigerator

Hello,

Unplug the Whirlpool refrigerator from the electrical outlet.
Step 2
Locate the bulb on the inside of the Whirlpool refrigerator.
Step 3
Remove the light cover. Usually these just snap off, but, on some models, they may need to be unscrewed. Use your screwdriver to unscrew the light cover retaining screws (if required).
Step 4
Unscrew the old light bulb.
Step 5
Screw in the new light bulb.
Step 6
Replace the light cover. Plug the Whirlpool refrigerator back in. Test your new light bulb.
Also note that the below can also work

Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.
Slide the light bulb cover toward the back of the compartment to release it from the light assembly.
Replace burned-out bulb(s) with appliance light bulb(s) no greater than 40 watts.
Replace the light bulb cover by inserting the tabs on the cover into the liner holes on each side of light assembly. Slide the cover toward the front until it locks into place.

NOTE: Do not force the cover beyond its locking point; doing so may damage the light cover.
Plug in refrigerator or reconnect power.
To change the freezer light bulb:

Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.

NOTE: You may need to remove the upper freezer shelf or basket to access the light assembly.
The light bulb cover opens from the back. Firmly press forward on the notches in the back of the cover and pull down the cover.

Remove the cover and replace the burned-out bulb with an appliance bulb no greater than 40 watts.
Insert the front tabs of the cover into the liner and snap the back portion of the cover over the light assembly.
Plug in refrigerator or reconnect power.

Good luck in applying the solution

Light bulbs are flashing with constant pulsing noise

It sounds like you have a lose connection for the lighting. It may be at the light bulb socket or even at the door switch. It also could be a lose wire going to or from these items. with a little detective work you should be able the bad connection.
I hope this helps :)

I have a whirlpool side by side refrigerator model no GS5SHAXNB00 refrigerator light blew this morning i replaced the bulb no lights working on refrigerator side and temp control settings

you need to replace the main/board for sure located in the lower rear left hand wall of the unit in a plastic case, it will have 3 wire harnesses unplug the unit, undo the plastic container and unplug the the board and there will be a burned spot on the case and burned trace on the circuit board, reason being, this is very common on any of these sideXsides,if a light blows out in the refrige compartment it puts a surge on the board and burns the circuit trace open, this makes the digital temp read-out go dark and if the lamps light at all they "strobe" dimly or not at all,and you will hear a clicking of the relays in the rear area trying to latch the light bulb circuitry, but cant because the main/mother-board is defective now

The interior lights have gone out and I cannot figure out how to change the blub, they do not just screw out as in other appliances Whirlpool Refrigerator Model ET18NK 18.1 Cu Ft

It is a standard 40 watt bulb going by the model number you have supplied and yes it does unscrew. Make sure to unplug unit before attempting this because it sounds as the bulb is stuck and may break on you so much safer to have power off and use a rag while trying to loosen. But it is a regular 40 watt bulb that does screw in.

GE GTS20ICNCC Refrigerator light bulb burns out quickly

Use the correct wattage bulbs. If they fail often then you may need to get it checked by an electrician.
Filament bulbs easily burn out. What you can do is to buy cheap bulbs and replace as soon as they burn. This is the problem which is why tube lights and LEDs were invented!
