How do you delete a Gmail account?
If you'd like to close or delete your Gmail account then you can do so by following these instructions:
Visit this page after signing into the account you would like to delete Gmail on: https://www.google.com/accounts/b/0/EditServices

You will have two options:
a) "Remove Gmail permanently": this removes the Gmail service but keeps any other Google services (Calendar, Drive, Blogger ...). All your emails and contacts are deleted permanently. You need to specify a non-Gmail email address as your new login for other Google services that you log into. If you want to delete or close your Gmail account but still use other Google services like Google Drive, then this would be the option for you.

b) "Close account and delete all services and info associated with it": this removes the whole Google account including all services that you used with this login (Youtube, Picasa, Blogger ...). This step is irreversible and you can never use the same username again. If you want to delete or close your Gmail account as well as any associated services with your Google account then you would choose this step.
If you are a Google Apps user (aka your email address is through Google but does not end in @gmail.com), then you will need to contact your organization's Google Apps administrator who will follow the procedure here for removing your address from the Google app domain: https://support.google.com/a/answer/33314?hl=en

Sign in to your Google Accounts homepage, then click the "Close account and delete all services and information associated with it" link.

Two options: one, do nothing as it doesn't hurt anything to have a dormant (free) account; two, follow the standard password recovery prompts to have the password reset and then follow through with an actual cancellation.

If you are looking to close out your entire google account/gmail account, this can be done.

Sign in to Gmail. Click your name at the top right of the screen and select Account.

When the Account screen loads. Scroll to the bottom and select "Close account and delete all services and information associated with it.". Then follow the steps.

Once you do that. Your Google/Gmail account and everything associated with it will be permanently removed

o cancel a Gmail account and delete the associated Gmail address:

• Go to Google Account Settings.
• Open the Products page.
• Click Edit under Your products.
• Click Remove Gmail permanently under Delete a Product.
  • You can also choose Close account and delete all services and info associated with it to remove your entire Google account (including your search history, Google Docs, iGoogle page, AdWords and AdSense as well as other Google services).
• Make sure Yes, I want to permanently delete [email protected] and remove it from my Google account. is checked.
• Enter an email address different from the address associated with the account you are closing under New primary email address.
  • Gmail may already have entered the secondary address you used when creating the Gmail account.
  • The alternative email address becomes your new Google account user name.
  • Make sure you enter an email address to which you have access. You need that access to complete deleting your Gmail account.
• Enter your Gmail password under Current password.
• Click REMOVE GMAIL.
• Open the "Gmail Removal Confirmation" email from "[email protected]" at the email address you specified as your new.
• Follow the deletion link in it.
• Type your Gmail password under Password:.
• Click Verify.
  • Keep in mind that you cannot undo this step.

You can only be logged into one gmail account at a time on the same browser, but you can log into a different account from a different browser.

For example: if you are using Firefox to access gmail for one account, you can use Opera, Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer, Safari, or some other browser to open gmail for another account at the same time. With this approach, you can have as many gmail accounts open at once as you have unique browsers.

If you cannot get a browser to sign out of one gmail address then into another, you may have to clear history or cookies or both, possibly even restart your computer. If you don't completely close a browser, you will remain logged into whatever account you were in, even if you close a tab.
