You have to log onto the wrouter itself, and then go to the setup page for wireless security.

If you are trying to simply join this network and leech, good luck.

I have wep on my i pad but router is wps

WPS is not a security feature, it just makes set-up easier. It works with devices that have a push button connect feature. Not all devices have that, but all devices can be added manually.

Your iPad can be logged into the router's wireless network, probably WPA or WPA2 (more secure) by using the iPad's on-board network tool.

First: (if this is not already done) Log into your router software. Locate your Wireless Network Set-up page & give your wireless network a unique name, like "Molly McGee" or some such, so you can identify yours from the neighbors.
Set up a shared password in the wireless network panel. Save this information for your household. Write it all down so you can use it to add new devices later.
Also note what type of Security scheme you are setting up (WPA, WPA2 personal etc- some devices ask for this info)

When the Wireless network is configured: On your iPad, go to Settings> Wi-Fi, Choose your network, this should open a panel so you can enter the shared password. Enter it and you should be good to go.

If you live in a very insecure place such as an apartment complex or over a retail space etc, you can choose to make your network invisible to outsiders. If you do this, you will have to ask to join the network each time you disconnect from it. You can easily locate and join it with the specific network name and security info- but creepers won't see your network and try to get in.

No data internet connection

Connecting to the Internet without a Wi-Fi data plan isn't a difficult process even for a novice at utilizing and joining wireless networks. Whether you are looking to join a public Wi-Fi hotspot network or a neighbor's private Wi-Fi network with their permission, get your computer online and browsing the Internet without the use of your own Wi-Fi data plan, saving money in the process. Note these steps to get you connected in just a few minutes.

Move to an area that offers free public Wi-Fi or to an area where you believe you are close enough to pick up a neighbor's Wi-Fi signal. In the latter case, check with your neighbor beforehand to ensure it is allowed that you utilize their Wi-Fi network. Using a private network without permission is illegal. Boot up your laptop. Allow Windows or the Mac operating system to load up fully on the laptop. Click on the wireless icon on your computer's desktop area. In Windows, you will find this icon on the right side of the bottom toolbar. It appears to be a computer monitor icon with small radio waves reaching out of it. Alternatively, on a Mac laptop click on the Wi-Fi icon on the top right toolbar in the desktop area. This icon will look like a set of radio waves extending upward. Look over the list that appears once you click on the wireless icon. This list will present all the wireless network options that are within the range of your laptop. Avoid any that present with a "lock" icon beside them, because these require passwords. If you are looking to join a password-protected network like one offered by a neighbor, request the password ahead of time. In the event of a public network at a local business, a password will not be required. Click on the network you intend to join. Input the appropriate password at this point, if joining a password-protected network. Also, choose the type of security encryption the private Wi-Fi network is using. Your computer will often have this auto-selected, but you may need to select either "WPA" or "WEP" security manually. Click "Enter" on your keyboard. If you do not have the necessary password or are unsure as to the security encryption type, either contact the network administer or click "Cancel" and join a public Wi-Fi network. Allow several moments for your computer to join the network. You will receive a notification on your Windows or Mac toolbar when it does. Launch your Internet browser of choice and begin utilizing the Internet without having to rely on your own Wi-Fi data plan

My son went to youtube and found a video on how to change WPA to WEP. Now my network is not working on my printer and laptop

you need to reconfigure your printer and laptop to WEP but I don't recommend it as WEP is terrible and easy to crack.
connect to your router via cat 5
open internet explorer and browse to http://192.168.1.1
login with the default login is blank. pass is admin.
go to wireless and to wireless security.
change it back to WPA personal.
change the passphase for the wireless password.
use the new passphase you created and tell your printer/laptop to join your wireless network
you may want to change your wireless password too so your son won't reconfigure your router again.
do this by going to administration and change the password there.

How to set up security for router

Ok, I don't know what type of router you have, but for most of them the steps are similar:
  1. Go to your router's admin page. This is usually at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (enter these into a browser such as Safari, Firefox, etc). You may need an admin username/password - this will be written on the router or in the instruction manual.
  2. Select the tab which reads 'Wireless', 'WiFi', 'Security', something like that.
  3. Find a list of security options. 'None' will be selected if you have no password at the moment.
  4. Select 'WPA 2 Passcode' or 'WPA 2 Personal' - WPA 2 is the most secure, unhackable WiFi security scheme.
  5. Set a password in the password box, and click 'Apply', or 'Save'.
You should now have to enter that password on trying to join your network.
Hope that helped!

How do i get my internet on my ipod?

Hey there,

Its a relatively simple process to enable internet on your Ipod. To do this you are going to need a little bit of information. You'll need: your routers Broadcast name (SSID), and your WEP or WPA/2 password.

Now follow these steps:

  1. Turn on your iPod. Ads by Google
    '; for(i = 0; i '+ '' + google_ads[i].line1 + ' ' + google_ads[i].line2 + ' ' + google_ads[i].line3 + '
    ' + '' + google_ads[i].visible_url + ''; } s += ""; document.write(s); return; } google_ad_channel = '+7733764704+1640266093+9911500640+2974691118+9016233241+8388126455+8941458308+6876289738+7122150828' + xchannels + gchans; google_ad_client = "pub-9543332082073187"; google_ad_output = 'js'; google_ad_type = 'text'; google_feedback = 'on'; google_ad_region = "test"; google_ad_format = '250x250_as'; //-->
  2. If not at the home screen, press home button.
  3. Tap settings button.
  4. Tap "wi-fi".
  5. If broadcasting your ssid, choose from the 'choose a network' list.
  6. Tap 'security' if you are using security and select your security type.
  7. Tap the 'other network' button to get back to network setting.
  8. Type in your security password, which is your key in your wireless modem setting. (*Important: if your using WEP security type, you must use key 1 from your wireless modem setting. If your using WPA or WPA2 security types then use the WPA Passphrase)
  9. Click 'join' after you have typed in your security password.
  10. Your network name (ssid) should show in 'choose a network' with a check mark next to it.

If there are any more problems feel free to get in touch.

All the best :)

Ipod keeps saying unable to join the network

I've had this problem many times with my iPod, and am still having it. If you are using a password on your network, such as WEP, WPA, WPA2, I think it may have issues connecting to a network using WPA2.

Also, check online for updates to your iPod firmware, this can sometimes include fixes for these kinds of problems.

Other Reasons:
Too far away from router
Router is using unsupported signal - Wireless N
You are entering the password incorrectly

Ipod touch won't connect to my wifi

things to check again:
1- if DHCP enabled 2- which type of security encryption is used, if WEP change to WPA, use numbers instead of mixed characters for wifi password 3- if MAC filtering is on on the router 4- if signal strength is good
hope that any one of the above solves your problem

My ipod touch wont connect to my buffalo router. My laptop does though. I select the router from the a list on my ipod, and then I enter the password. Then, I get a pop-up that says "Unable to join...

Try a different kind of wireless encryption on your router. This will probably fix it. If your password is wep, try wpa. If it's wpa, try wep. If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about.....let me know :)
