SOURCE: Key off and gauges move
it's normal if it's what I think, fuel gauge goes to half on the right side and the farthest gauge to the left goes to half, if it's the case it's the security system that does that after about 10 or 15 minutes they both go back to zero, but as soon as you unlock the door and open it they go back to half until you start it....
SOURCE: My Spare Key Won't Start My Car
ok well here's the thing. This key has not been used before. The keys are cut to the specs of the ignition so they may be undercut so to speak. I know on my car i can turn it upside down it will work. But on the other hand it could just possibly be a back up for when you lock your keys in your car (not likely but it's still possible). You can keep putting your key in and out a bunch of times and **** the steering wheel back and forth as you turn the key to get it used to the ignition switch. See if that works and if not i will see what i can come up with in the meantime for this exact car.

The tumblers are Bad in the Cylinder Lock.. Its common for Chevy.. Esp if ya have a lot of keys hanging off the key chain.. It Speeds up the wear on the guts of the tumbler because of the weight of the keys constantly working the key mechanism.. Hope this Helps.. Thank you.. Shop242

Check the cable connections at the battery and the starter for corrosion.
You may want to use a volt meter ( DC Volts ) for a more accurate reading.
Put the black lead on the battery NEG.,next ( with the meter on ) touch the POS. post/bolt with the red lead and see if you have atleast 11.0 volts, if so, try to bare a bit of the rubber insulation at the battery end and recheck with the red lead. Sometimes the solder weakens which causes a loss of voltage/current.
If reading is still close to or above 11.0 volts, next touch the red lead to the large post on the starter and see what the reading is,if this is still above the 11.0 volts,,,, check the fusable links located near the starter, you must have the same reading on both sides of the fuse ( round black plastic ).
