Re: 20f514td rca has no focus.
Either the flyback or the picture tube is bad. It's usually the tube that causes this problem, but sometimes the resistors in the flyback fail. Since it's such a small set, you probably would be better off replacing it than putting money into repairs.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

There are many cause of dark picture symptom of standard television.First thing to do is try to adjust the screen control adjustment located at the flyback at the lower parts. There are two flyback adjustment the focus and screen adjustment. The upper level is focus and the lower is screen control.
If check also the CRT socket board section. This CRT board is compose of high voltage terminal coming from the high voltage supply.Check if there's a cold solder in CRT socket terminal and other parts around the CRT socket. The heater supply, the RGB cathode supply, and the screen supply are the supply of picture tube to be lights up.So try to resolder those parts of the TV.Avoid short circuit in the PCB board.Hope it will help you.Thanks..
If standard adjustment procedures don't work, you will need to remove the back cover of your TV and adjust the power from your flyback which is usually located to the right side as you face the rear of the set. Be careful to touch nothing with your hands. With the power disconnected, read the writing on your flyback to select the proper dial for output. Some RCA flybacks have 2 dials. 1 for focus, and one for output. Once this dial has been located, use a non conductive screwdriver and turn clockwise slowly until your screen adjusts to the desired brightness level. If at any time during this adjustment your flyback begins to pop and arc it will be because it has reached the end of it's usefullness and is already burned out. An exception to this is if you turned the adjustment too far and the over adjustment placed too much strain on the part. Having to adjust this part in the first place means that your TV has already begun to degrade and wear and it will need to be replaced sometime soon. Other techs will tell you this type of adjustment is not advised and is risky. I tend to agree with them on principle, but not in practise. Your TV has reached an age where normal repair is too expensive to be worth the bother or expense. If you don't feel confident to do any of the steps outlined above, then by all means do not attempt this type of repair.
Most likely the TV is detecting an internal problem with it's circuitry and is shutting itself off to prevent further damage. You'll need to have a professional look at your set to determine exacly what's going on. Aside from leaving the power cord unplugged for five minutes, then pluggin back in and trying it again, there's nothing anyone can do from here. It may work, but it's a long shot.
Hope this helps, and please rate my advice, good OR bad.
If you feel good about opening your set then you can try this: Look for the flyback (high voltage) transformer, with the thick red wire which goes to the top of the picture tube. There are 2 controls on the flyback transformer, focus (top) and screen (bottom)Turn the brightness and contrast all the way down and then increase the screen control until you see retrace lines, and then back it down until those lines just vanish. Return the brightness and contrast to normal and adjust the focus control, if necessary, for a nice sharp picture. Let me know if that brings your brightness back.
When you have the back off, look for the flyback (high voltage) transformer. This is the part that has the thick red wire protruding from its top which attaches to the top of the picture tube with a suction cup. On the flyback there are 2 controls, the bottom one is screen and the top one is focus. Turn the bottom control (screen) down (counterclockwise) until the white lines go away and the brightness looks normal. Then turn the top control (focus) until the picture is nice and sharp. If the F connector has been pulled out and the TV has RCA (red, white, yellow) jacks, use those jacks and set the TV to INPUT.
When you replaced the flyback the new flyback is shipped with the screen and focus controls set at minimum. These are the 2 controls on the flyback itself. Turn the set on and let it warm up a minute, then slowly turn up the screen (bottom) control with a small flat-head screwdriver. When the picture is around normal brightness, adjust the focus (top) control until the picture is nice and sharp. Then, turn the brightness and contrast all the way down and set the screen control until you can just see the picture, just above the point where the picture vanishes. Reset the brightness and contrast settings and your picture will be back to perfect.
This RCA set uses the CTC187BD chassis. Look on the back of the set and to the right of the cable connector you will see 2 controls sticking out, one on top of the other. The top control is for focus and the bottom one is screen, or overall brightness. If these controls have been turned clockwise then you will have a bright, fuzzy picture with white lines (retrace lines) through it. Tune in a channel with white letters on the screen and turn the top (focus) control until the letters are crisp and sharp. Go into the menu and turn the contrast and brightness all the way down, and then turn the bottom control (screen) until you can just see the picture, just above the point where the picture is too dark to see. Go back into the menu and reset the contrast and brightness and the picture will be back to perfect.
