Question about Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer

4 Answers

I recently replaced the drum and the toner cartridge in my HL 2040 Brother printer. Now, when I print I get my regular print plus a ghost copy of the text further down the page. My printer was fine when I changed the drum. A few days later i had to change the toner and that is when this started. Any suggestions?

This is a brand new cartridge (not cheap) why would I remove the toner? Also, how would I remove the toner and then refill it with what?

At present the print test is adjusted on the text image back so you r getting this.i suggest you to just adjust the print text on normal mpode.but if you think you are not able to change the printer settings and nothing is helping.you just reload the printer drivers again everty thing will get set automatically on proper settings without doing any thing. thanks.

Its a common problem.the toner powder inside the cartridge is moistened .the moistened toner leaves back a ghost repeated image. replace the toner powder of ur toner cartridge.

U need to clean the area around the toner cartridge, the toner leaks out and causes this, one possibility is a defective cartridge, this usually only is a problem when rebuilt.remanuafacturered cartridge's are used.

How to Change a Toner Cart in a Brother HL 2040

The Brother HL 2040 laser printer has a toner cartridge that supplies toner to the drum assembly so that the printer can print properly. When the LED on the front of the printer indicates you are low on toner, you will need to replace the toner cartridge to maintain good print quality. Fortunately, the toner cartridge can be replaced without any special tools.

Instructions
Things You'll Need:

* Replacement toner cartridge (part number TN350 or TN360)
* Paper towel or scrap paper

Grasp the front cover of the printer and pull it toward you to open the toner door. Reach into the printer and grab the combined toner cartridge/drum assembly. Lift up slightly and pull it out of the front of the printer.

Place the cartridge and drum on a paper towel, spare sheet of paper, rag or other surface that can get dirty. Loose toner particles may spill from the cartridge.

Press the blue locking lever on the cartridge/drum unit to unlock the toner cartridge from the drum. Lift the toner cartridge up and away from the drum unit. Dispose of the old toner cartridge in accordance with your local regulations. Seal it in a plastic bag to keep loose toner from spilling.

Gently shake your new toner cartridge back and forth a few times to distribute the toner evenly across the width of the cartridge. Remove the plastic protective cover from the bottom of the cartridge.

Place the new toner cartridge onto the drum unit and press it down gently until it locks into place. The blue locking lever will automatically click into place. Verify that the toner cartridge is securely connected to the drum.

Locate the corona wire cleaner tab at the front of the drum unit. Slide it back and forth several times to improve the print quality of the drum. Set the tab back in the home position when finished.

Slide the combined toner cartridge/drum unit back into the printer and close the front cover.

Hope it helps...

The toner light stays on even after we have replaced the cartridge with a new one. Recently we replaced the drum and it was working ok for a short while and then the toner light stays on and the printer...

Here you got bud just copy and paste all this **** below into the http:// window at the top of your web box:

http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:uNJvw-MWncQJ:www.oasis-imaging.com/images/pdf/cart_inst/Brother%2520TN360.pdf+Brother+TN360+by+OASis&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESj4M8XLUS4yMo7hAf3nTuGGvKtaYS5_tHhGdh9WoDGinffOkVJPv8cp642xaSG5PkbrNrcUssyMY1ggc1xYlSZEu-JNeY4iVcXWD9O7MKza5_7CjyQyTPW7nnZeAQWm_d7f-MEE&sig=AHIEtbTarYNPKakKRnVcXg3pW_PBoi_4tA

You gotta reset the plastic piece at the end. Also, get you some black electric tape and tape the 2 circular clear plastic plugs on each end of the cartridge. The sneaky bastards at Brother shoot a laser through these clear plastic plugs and when the toner goes below these plugs that causes your printer to say your out of toner even though your not. Therefore if you tape over these clear plugs, then you can squeeze another 225 pages of pure printing bliss without needing a replacement.

The drum shouldn't be "worn out" but the mirror from the laser may have become dirty from the toner dust give ther printer a good clean out and clean the silver reflective stripe and all should be ok

Brother HL-2040, The drum light keeps coming on and the left side of the printed page is all black?

Sounds like the toner cart. has toner packed at one end and possibly the drum cartridge is dirty. Remove both from the printer, separate the 2 and vacuum the drum cart. - them blow it clean. Run the drum wire cleaner (purple/blue tab on front edge of drum cart.) back & forth a number of times. Blow out the inside of the printer to get out toner dust. Reinstall toner back into drum cart, then hold GO/Control button down until all lights are on, let go, reinstall toner&drum back into printer, close door. Power down - then back on. That should do it. Worst case, you'll have to replace the drum unit.

Printer prints a duplicate image. Is the drum dirty?

does the problem exist if you try your old cartridge (just for a test)? if it doesn't, then you have a defective toner. Otherwise it is coincidental, and you need to replace the Drum unit.

Sounds to me like the toner - that is the toner cartridge has the wrong toner in it. The drum should be OK - clean it up first and then use a genuine toner cartridge OR you can buy our refill kit on eBay - search for Brother HL2040 - michellem6123
