Ebay is the way to go. Most of the online sellers are based in China and it can be a pain to get a refund / exchange / return / customer service...etc.

There is a shortage right now so the price is getting higher and higher. Make sure you buy one that is guaranteed NEW.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Ahh I see what you're going for. Honestly it's just as easy to swap the laser alone. Its just another 6 screws.

Won't play a blue ray disc

The blueray eye is out. You will need a new blueray player. The only problem with that is the ps3 will only respond with the orginal parts it came with. ( i.e. motherboard blueray player ) So the best bet is to buy a broken blueray player and take the eye out and replace it with yours just the eye not the whole thing.

The PS3 will not play the new (BD) dvd I just hired .And i have never had this problem befor. Its askin me to renew my encryption key and says something about system software up date. I am not connected to...

All Blue Ray players need to be updated from time to time to keep up with the growing technology of Blue Ray. PS3 is the same way. It is asking you to update your PS3 in order to play the disc. On the back of the PS3 is a Ethernet port (looks like an over sized phone jack) connect this to your internet (modem) and it will update your encryption key and software needed to play Blue Ray discs. Here is a link for that as well.

Screen freezes playing Blue Ray discs only.

I answer this question like ten times a day so don't feel bad.

The blu-ray laser in your PS3 is a three part laser (cd / dvd / blu-ray). They last only 1-3 years with average use. It's a Sony defect.
