Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Does anyone know how to connect a refrigerator to a water supply?

There is no water tap in my kitchen behind where the refrigerator goes. Is there an easy/standard way to install one?

You don't want the tap behind the unit. Either run the water line behind the cabinets, through the basement or crawl space from the nearest sink or water line and put the shut off where the new line meets the existing line.

You should be good with 1/4" line, I would advise against using a self piercing valve, they are easy but can lead to leaks and more issues.

tap gently on solenoid . it is probably stuck from corrosion. if that doesnt work you will need a new one. go to any appliance parts dealer they should be able to supply you with a aftermarket replacement water valve.

Water solenoid inlet valve is getting stuck slightly open, It's located behind the refrigerator on the bottom where main supply hose connects. You can first try tapping it and see if that helps otherwise it would need to be replaced.

My refrigerator shows an ice make but i can not find the connections to it

THE CONNECTIONS ARE BEHIND THE UNIT TURN IT AROUND AND YOU CAN SEE THE WATER HOSE CONNECTORS, YOU HAVE TO DO SOME WATER INSTALATION FROM AWATER SUPPLY THE MOST COMMON IS THE ONE BY THE KITCHEN/SINK. WHAT YOU NEED IS: A SET OF A COPER TUBE INCLUDE ONE SMALL REFRIDG WATER VALVE. MAKE SURE YOU LET ALL THE AIR OUT FROM THE WATER LINE BY KEEP THE WATER RUN THROUGH THE LINE FOR ABOUT 1 OR 2 MUNITS. AND PUTT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER

First the white plastic tubing is the supply line inlet for the water to the ice maker. It should be connected to a water supply somewhere in the kitchen. This line goes inside the refrigerator to some relays that turn the water on and off to the ice maker. You will have to check these relays for proper function and depending on the year of your refrigerator will depend on where these are located but most of the time at or near the bottom in the back.

Also there should be a large filter on the back of the frig. check to see if that is clogged. This is the easiest to do first.

Plum in a Amana fridge freezer

hello. I am assumming that your model has the ice and water dispenser. Not all models do. On the rear of these models with the ice and water feature you will find a small [1/4 inch] line that has to be connected to a cold water supply source. If you go to most any hardware store you can get the little kit necessary to make this connection. The kit consists of a length of 1/4 inch tubing, the connector to attach to the tube at the rear of your appliance, a valve and a tapping kit to tap into your closest cold water source. If the fridge is near the kitchen sink, you may choose to connect under the sink. If not, make sure you purchase a kit with enough 1/4 inch tubing to reach your nearest cold water pipe. J.

If it's running continuously then your water inlet valve on the back where the water supply is connected is probably stuck partially open. You can turn the water off under the sink or with the saddle valve behind the fridge.

Water from the kitchen tap is good tasting, water

The water has been in the tank for too long. Draw and discard a least 7 glasses of water to freshen the supply. Draw another 7 glasses of water or more to completely rinse out tank. Repeat the process if necessary.

LEAKS WATER WHERE WATER LINE GOES INTO FREEZER.

An easier fix is to redo the connection. Turn off the tap the supplies water to refrigerator, should be on your cold water line under the sink. Remove not on the solenoid valve(blue valve) slide the nut further up the vinyl tubing cut the tubing above the old connection. push the tubing into valve and tighten nut finger tight. turn the tap on a little and check for leaks at the solenoid. If no leaks open tap all the way. If leak tighten nut a little more only until leak stops. then turn tap on all the way.

HOOK UP OF ICE MAKER TO THE WATER LINE

What you have in the back is a 1/4 tube which will feed cold water to the icemaker.

go to any hardware store and ask for an icemaker supply line kit. It will consist of a tapping valve, about ten feet of 1/4 inch tubing and a straight connector.

it will also contain step by step instructions.

You will have to determine what cold water line to tap into that is accessable. Perhaps the kitchen sink cold water supply if it is on the same wall as the refrigerator. Many times the line is run up from the basement.

enjoy your new icemaker.
