You'll want to use the AUX, because it, for sure, does not have any RIAA equalization, which the phono input may or may not have.

Short answer: Plug the mp3 player into the AUX inputs.

How do I attach a SLB technics record deck to a technics DV250 stereo system

If you plugged it into the aux or vcr input and have no sound, you probably need a phono amplifier first. Signals from turntable are very low in comparison to other sources and need to be boosted up to normal levels first.

Cannot play my ipod through my technics amp

You would need a mini jack to stereo rca wire. Insert the mini jack to your Ipod's headphones, then plug the stereo rca to your amp inputs. If it's a receiver, plug into any of the inputs (aux, tape etc) except "phono or turntable", then switch to respected input on the receiver. Be sure all volumes on both units are down during this process, then gradually turn up both volume to normal level.

I have just fitted a Technics SL BD20 Turntable to my new Panasonic SA-AKX50 system. I can't get much volume out of it when playing a record on the turntable. I have a black wire coming out of the back...

Does your NEW Panasonic SA-AKX50 have an input label "PHONO"? If not, it can't PRE-amplify and RIAA-equalize the tiny voltage signal produced by the phono cartridge.

"PHONO" is the only designated connection on an audio device that is literal and exclusive. Nothing but PHONO will work right on it and old-school turntables would require it to preamplify the tiny current produced by a Phono cartridge.

If your unit doesn't have a PHONO connection you will have to get a Phono Preamp to connect between the TT and any Line Level input, like Aux.

eBay always has some...

How do i connect technics turntable model SL-QD33 to technics stereo model SC-DV290 and what do i need to switch to on stereo to play records.

Have a look on the back input panel of the sc-dv290. Check for a "PHONO" input. If there is no phono input it will not play turntable. If there is: then plug it the turntable in and switch the SC-DV290 to PHONO mode.
Another way would be to purchase a "phono preamplifier" from ebay: Hook the turntable into the phono preamplifier, and the preamplifer into the SC-DV290 AUX input.

HOW CAN I HOOK UP MY IPOD TO MY RECEIVER

Use a phono to RCA stereo jack (pic below) and hook one end to the head phone jack on your ipod and the other ends to your amplifier aux or tape input and adjust the volume to low on the ipod - select the input on the stereo - Aux or tape in.
You'll need this type of cable

I cant get my record deck to work on my technics sh-dv290 from the aux why

Is the aux imput for tape or cd only? Or is it a dedicated phono imput?
If it is for tape or CD only it won't work has the cartridge from the deck needs a magnetic pre-amp.
If the amp doesn't have a phono imput you can get a pre-amp for cartridges from your local electrical shop. This will plug into your deck and then into the socket of the amp.
If the aux on your amp is a phono socket, assuming the record deck is working, then the pre-amp (inside your amp) for the cartridge has failed. It generally is located near the imput socket, chances are it will be single IC. It's a fair bet the IC will have failed, they tend to be static sensitive types prone to fail at the drop of a hat!

Technics turntable plays but no sound with Sherwood receiver

The problem is the fact that the new receiver has no phono input. The phono input has an extra stage of amplification built in. Your receiver is working fine. You need to purchase a phono pre-amp. These run around $20. Connect the turntable to the preamp and the presmp output to any line level input on your new receiver and everything will work as expected.

Please let me know how your turntable is connected to the music system. I mean, to which input ? (Tape/Aux/Phono/VCR/CD) ?
