If the lid switch comes apart it is not repairable.
Only replaceable.
p.s. duct tape does not count.

Need help with the lid latch

Yeah, I would say that your lid switch came apart. Seems to be a common problem with lid switches made out of plastic. I think that it comes from people placing heavy things on top of the washer. Like themselves during the spin cycle. And it puts too much pressure on the switch making it come apart.
I go to repairclinic.com a lot with model numbers to find manufacturer part numbers. Then take that number and plug it into ebay. For this model I found W10059230 to be the part number. Found a lot of listing on ebay for really good prices. Amazon is another good source for parts for low prices.
As for putting the switch back together there is no way to do so and it work correctly. It will need to be replaced.
Youtube videos is another good source on how to do things. People have been nice enough to post hands on videos of a lot of different things. Great learning source.

What company manufactured lid switch PS350434 FOR WHIRLPOOL WASHER

3949247 is the actual part number for that lid switch, and you won't find a blow out of the thing taken apart because its a molded part and not designed to come apart/

My Kenmore 22712 Top load will agitate, but when it switches to the spin cycle I get nothing. The motor wont run and the tub doesn't spin.

open the lid a lttle and close it down a few times,if you don't hear a clicking sound when it closes you have a bad lid switch,or open the lid and stick a screw driver in the hole where the piece on the lid goes down into when the lid is closed, if it doesn't click and the machine doesn't run then the lid switch is bad.,they don't want the machine to run with the lid open when it goes into the spin cycle,if you send the full model number located beneath the lid when it's open on the back panel under the lid.let me know how you make out

the older kenmore washers don't have belts in them,it's the motor coupling that's broke, remove the two screws that hold down the top console,if you have the plastic corner pieces, pop then off and the screws are under them, flip the console up,then with a screw driver pop the two metal clips and in between them unplug the lid switch harness, open the lid, grab the frame and tilt it back and pull back and remove the frame, down the bottom, remove the two clips and slide off the pump, then remove the two screws and clips and slide off the motor and on the back is where the coupling is,remove the broken coupling from the motor shaft and off the tranny shaft and tap on the new one, slide the rubber onto the tranny piece and then slide the motor back on ,put it back together and your good to go,next time send the model number

Won't spin and drain

check the switch for the lid. the machine will not spin or drain if it thinks the lid is open. use a screwdriver or ink pen to push on the little lever. the lid has a small stick of some sort sticking out. the lever is in the hole that the stick normally goes into. the lever should click each time. if not, replace it. good luck

Lid switch assembly

go to www.searspartsdirect.com for a picture of this units lid switch.it doesnt show it very well, but it will give you an idea of how it goes back together.
what you need to do is put the lever around the switch first, then put the plastic box on the switch and arm. then carefully hold the assembly together and try to get it under the top and put the 2 screws back into the housing holes.
it sounds simple but i have done this before and its not easy. you just need to be careful to get the screws into the mounts correctly or it wont hold together to allow the switch to activate when the lid is closed.
by the way was there a reason you took the switch off??
maybe because it wont spin?
by the way this unit is not 30 years old, maybe 20 at the most.
the drive couplings are a weak spot for these and you may have a broken one. it wont spin or agitate but will drain if this is broken.

My Kenmore goes through all the cycles but will not spin!

Hello, ok washer not spinning is 1 of 2 things. First see if lid switch is clicking, do this by shutting and reopening the lid …do you here a click click sound. If you do then more then likely the lid switch is good. If not then replace the lid switch by unscrewing the 2 screws by the lid switch, unplug washer, pull switch out, it will come out about 4 to 5 inch’s, cut the 2 wires close to switch and then strip each wire back about ½ in. when you have the new switch cut wires 6 in from new switch and strip wires the same. Wire nut the 2 wires together and then wire nut the other two wires together. Reverse steps to put back in. if it is not the lid switch then it is the coupler. This you will need a technician for unless you are somewhat mechanical. If so you can look up how to do this. Thank you
