Scanning to computer does not work if the Solution Center is not installed properly. Make sure the printer status is ready before scanning from Solution Center.

If you cannot open solution center, try adding a device using the CD. If not resolved, you may have to uninstall and then reinstall the entire Software.

Goodluck!

When trying to scan to my HP J4580 Officejet J4580 All-in-One printer it says "No scan options, refer to device documentation". What does this mean?

It means you need the HP scanning software running on your computer. The computer tells the scanner how to scan, what to scan and where to save the image after scanning. The scanner has no options until received from your computer.

Having a problem with the scan function on my HPC7280

Not too sure on this model, but if there was no options, perhaps the machine has not been set up correctly to scan to a folder or application.
This FAQ/Guide from HP shows you what you need to do to correct set up your printer to make scans.

Can't Scan

In order to scan it must be connected to your computer with a scanning program running. You can still make copies with the copy function, but it won't scan unless the HP scan software is running.

Scanner does not work

You first have to have the HP scanning program running on your computer. When you press scan, it's looking at your computer to see where it will send the image. If you just want to copy you have to use the copy function.

HP Photosmart 3110 All-in-one - Scanner function not working

Scanning requires two-way communication between the computer and the scanner. Usually the error that you describe above indicates an issue with the USB connection. First, make sure that you are not using a USB hub. Try a new USB 2.0 (A-B) cable that is under 6' long. Try using a different USB port on the computer.

If the problem persists, check the Device Manager to see if you have a USB driver problem. (For most versions of Windows, press the Windows key + X to quickly access the menu with the Device Manager.) Expand the section labeled Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for an exclamation point or an X. Similarly check for any issues in the Devices and Printers section of the Control Panel. The All-in-One should be listed as a printer and a scanner.

I hope this helps. If you are still having problems, please add a comment with the OS version on your computer. That can help identify additional issues that could be involved.

Problem with a canon 5000f scanner. Scan light does not move and I get an error message 2,150,0 which tells me to turn off the scanner and refer to the manual. The manual is not helpful

First, disconnect the scanner and power it down. Next, remove the scanner software from the computer through the control panel and remove software function. Shut down and restart the computer. Next, reinstall the software. If Canon has a new version of the software on its site, use that. Follow the manual during the install procedure. If this doesn't work, your next decision is economic...new or repair.

Scanning

My Photosmart 2575 v has worked fine as well for over a year and now it won't scan. I get the same message: "Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot". I ran all updates and they said I have them all and everything is working perfectly. It's not though. I still can't scan. I tried their work-around by opening paint and then acquring image from the scanner but that does not work either.

Scan to computer

When you installed your printer, it came with software for your computer. It should have placed HP icons on your desktop. Click the one that says HP Solution Center and then select Scan Document. Follow the steps from there.
