Power supply may have been hosed. Another thing to try is to plug the A/C adapter in but do NOT have a battery connected. If it powers on then there might have been a problem with the both batteries. Also be sure nothing else is connected to the computer's ports. Especially any external video devices.

The laptop lenovo z560 does not switch on. With battery it shows 2 short flashes of battery charge idicator, an one long (about 10 sec) and than nothing is happening. Withou battery nothing happens after...

Hi smialkovskyi,

With this specific concern that you do have, unable to turn on your Lenovo Z560, there 3 components that need to be checked. Your battery, the AC adapter (charger) and as well as the DC In port.

1.Based on what you have said, with the battery alone you have noticed that it's led indicator will show however still can't turn on system. Battery seems to be in good condition however no enough charge to turn on the system.

2. For your AC adapter, when you're using it without the battery nothing happens. To check if this is defective try using another AC adapter that is compatible to your unit. If your computer turned on using another AC adapter then your charger needs replacement. (You may also try using your charger to other unit where it is compatible, just to test).

3. However, if after doing the previous instruction and still system won't turn on then it could be the DC In port which is defective. This port is built in to *********** board.

After doing all these you need to contact Lenovo. They might be replacing your charger or *********** board if system is under warranty.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

IBM thinkpad, will not switch on, no charge light when plugged in?? no lights at all?

1. Make sure your wall outlook is good. Try a different outlet.
2. Test the AC adapter if you can with a multimeter.
3. Remove battery and AC adapter then hold the power for 40-50secs. Reconnect AC and try power on.
Hope this help.

Just purchased a new Lenovo battery, and it has never charged to more than 33%, and now is at 0. One icon shows it is charging, another icon says it is plugged in (AC adapter), but not charging...Tried to...

First, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

Turn on but the ac light don't work

first of all the battery error is with the laptop battery and not with the CMOS battery, if your saying that the light indicator for your ac adapter is no longer litting up and it would normally does, then i would suggest that try plugging it on a different ac outlet or double check if the power cord that goes to the wall outlet going to your ac adapter itself is properly plugin or seated. After you double check on those troubleshooting step and still has the same problem you could also try power draining your computer by removing the battery and unpluging the ac adapter and press and hold the power button for 15 seconds then plug it all back and try to turn on computer. If you still have the same issue after all those TS step you could try using a known good ac adapter or you could consider replacing it or might as well call their tech support hotline if your still under warranty so that they would replace it for free (Lenovo Thinkpad support: US/Canada- 1-800-426-7378, Australia - 1-300-880-917. BTW Im a Lenovo technician thats why i know this information and troubleshooting step and this what they would ask you to do if ever you're going to contact them for support, so when you call them after doing all this TS step you can just ask a replacement ac adapter for you laptop. hope it helps..

T61 Appears Dead; No lights of any kind even on AC or Dock power

If you are sure the AC power adapter & power cable are not the cause of the problem, try disassembling the laptop & make sure that all main components are seated properly. Also make sure that all ribbon cables interconnecting the various components of the laptop are tightly connected.

Similar problem here...Lenovo T61p won't power up.

Sounds like it needs the magic reset procedure. Press the power button 11 times and on the 11th time hold it for 30 seconds. Put the battery and power adapter in and retry it.

Lenovo T61 Battery life 10 min? Any advise?

A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop & see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case we can suspect that the battery is defective.

Ibm a31 0190 erroe

Error 0190 means you need to charge your battery. Either your battery is not charging properlty or your charger is not working anymore. If the computer works while plugged in and gives no error then it would be the battery that needs replacing. If the battery is a few years old then you may want to order a replacement. The Thinkpad A31 uses the ThinkPad Ultrabay 2000 Li-Ion Battery. You can purchase a replacement battery from this website:

http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?GroupID=38&Code=02K6646&current-category-id=4364BD0F20B94413B5AD6E684D2848E9

If the laptop doesn't work while plugged in and you dont get any lights on the battery or power indicator on the front of the laptop then you may need a replacement. Depending on which region you are in you will need a different A/C adapter. You can find a list of different A/C adapters here. The A31 uses the 72 watt power adapters on this page:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4PJRRG#72watt

I hope this helps.

Thinkpad T43 wont get any AC power

I've run into this many times with IBM machines. The power management chip on the motherboard has failed. Unfortunately, you will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix the problem.
