Go to your local HVAC dealer NOT HOME DEPOT, They will size it for you ,You need to give them the ceiling ht. also 8' or 15' does make a difference. My guess with a 8'ceiling would be 2.5 ton. let me know how close i am to the size.

What is your heating medium?-
Natural Gas, or LP gas--- or Fuel Oil-- Or electric? (Like a Heat Pump-- a compressor as in an Air Conditioning system-- the 'waste heat' is the source of heat-- They are a bit more economical that Electric heat.

Tell us about how it sounds different now, than it did yesterday (or when it stopped heating..)
Are you in the Freezing South right now?

Hi i need to know the ton of the unit

TYou can find that information on the steel plate on the back of the unit, if it's a heat pump you will find it on the sied where tubing comes out of heat pump. It will have serial Number and model number and you can take that information and go to Carrier and find thw tonage list.

Intertherm heat pump blows hot then cold then hot

You may have a problem with a temperature safety system.  Before changing anything else, check to see if the unit is clean!!!  Dirt/dust can fool the safety system into an overtemperature status.  Inspect the heat coils for damage and dirt.  Gently clean.

Heating problems

It sounds like the unit is going into a defrost cycle, which is normal for heat pumps and means all is working ok when it gets around 35 or colder they start to do this more often when the red light goes back off , the outdoor fan should come back on. You may also notice steam (may look like smoke) coming from outdoor unit. Is that what happens??

Intertherm heat pump

FIRST YOUR OUTSIDE UNIT PROVIDES HEAT BY USING A REVERSING VALVE TO CHANGE THE REFRIGERANT FLOW.THERE IS NO HEAT STRIPS OUTSIDE SECOND YOUR EMERGENCY HEAT TURNS ON ELECTRIC ELEMENTS INSIDE YOUR AIRHANDLER UNIT.IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE HAS WIRED YOUR UNIT WRONG OR HAS THE THERMOSTAT SET IMPROPERLY.WHEN THE HEAT PUMP CANNOT SATTISFY THE SETPOINT THE THERMOSTAT IS SUPPOSED TO TURN ON YOUR ELEC. HEAT UNTILL THE LOAD HAS BEEN REACHED AND THE HEAT PUMP CAN CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN IT.
