Question about HP DesignJet 450c InkJet Printer
I have (2) plotters....one a 450C and the other a 430. The 450C is basically worn out and was giving problems (mainly feeding). The 430 plotter has been used very little. I removed the simm chip from the 450 and placed in the 430. The 430 is not recognizing that it has been upgraded to a color plotter. I have double checked and made sure the simm is in the correct slot and seated well with no luck. I'm not getting any errors...just won't recognize the upgrade? Any ideas? EEROM need resetting?

as you experienced very well, Windows creates a lot of problems in plotting CAD/Cutting/Engraving works.
The problem is that Windows, Plotters and Applications usually don't give good drivers, up-to-date or they don't give at all for old plotters.
We can offer a solution: Winline drivers
On a flatbad plotter it supports a work area of up to:
Supports long page sizes on DesignJet and Vinyl Cutters (up to 200m or 660 feet).
WinLINE has been engineered by vector driver experts to drive your plotter, cutter or engraver efficiently from popular Windows applications and to create efficient HPGL files suitable for document management systems and downstream usage. And they are those recommended from HP, Autodesk and work great with Corel Draw, Power Point, Micrografx Designer, EXCELL, Lotus, Word
and all vectorial-oriented Windows applications, under W95, W98, WME, NT 4.0, W2000, WinXP, Win VISTA You'll find all informations at www.paolocasella.it

SOURCE: 450c color problem
There is no way a plotter can simply change from a 450c to a 430, you simply have a bad color cartrige, EVEN if it seems ok. One of the color cartriges is not working, when this happens the plotter reverts to plotting black only. Check all color cartriges carefully, and check the ready light when clipping the cartrige back, it should blink at least once and up to three times indicating the cartrige is ok. If the plotter accepts all the color cartriges then load a sheet of A4 paper and do a color cartrige alignment page, you will quickly see which cartrige is faulty.

SOURCE: max file size 450c can plot ?
You should have no trouble with the unit as additional buffering will be done in your PC if necessary. These units are a one pass rather than a whole page at a time.

Has this USB to Centronics cable worked in the past, but has now stopped?
The reason I ask is that there are two kinds of parallel ports, and so two kinds of USB-to-Centronics adapators. One is unidirectional, and one is bidirectional. If your plotter requires bidirectional, then it won't work properly with unidirectional.
