Install yellow cartridge when already installed on display

Help, I have the same problem

    I have an hp2840 laser multi-function--I replaced all the cartridges and the drum with no problem--then received a message that the yellow toner was not replaced "?" mark in the display unit. I have taken everything out, replaced the yellow with a new unit and still get the same message. I have powered on, powered off, let it stand for a while--still yellow cartridge message.

    Yellow cartridge is not recognized. I have cleaned the contacts, replaced with a new one, removed and replaced the other colors, turned the machine on and off, unplugged and waited, put toners back in, and still get the f#@ken message. Help.

Clean the contact before placing the cartridge and follow the steps from the link below to install cartridge.

    Platsic tab from the Toner Cartridge may be broken off and
    fell into the Track where the Toner slides in blocking it from fully
    engaging. That will cause the message you are seeing on your printer.
    Remove the Yellow toner cartridge and check the tracks on both sides for foreign object

Hi!

You need to reset your printer as it is not detecting the new cartridge. Turn printer on and off and then try.

    Perform a cold reset on the printer.


    1.Turn the printer on.
    2.Watch the control panel.
    3.When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green example (Select) button.
    4.Continue holding the green example (Select) button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.
    5.Release the check button when the Ready, Data, and Attention light are on steady. The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE.
    6.Press example (Down Arrow) button once. The control panel will display COLD RESET.
    7.Press example (Select). The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence.
    8.Now again install the yellow cartridge.

Remove all toners from carousel , and repeat complete install procedure, using only yellow new and rest of cartridges as old ones.

    Otherwise you can "clean the cartridge contacts, reinsert and unplug, replug and try again" , that is an excellent way to install a new cartridge on a color laser!

    ...Just kidding...

    All you need to do is removing all toners , not only the yellow one, and reinsert all cartridges with only the yellow one as new in the middle, this is the standard procedure to replace only one color toner, even if manufacturers suggest changing all toners at once.

    I will be grateful if you can accept the solution, It is 20 years that I have been fixing printers and electronics, and giving you advice to reward ridiculous comments it is getting a little humiliating.

    That means that there is a problem with one of the toner sesor.

    Try the following :

    Perform a reset using the printer menu.
    Shake well the yellow toner before replacing it in place.
    Clean the printer internally, residual toner may cause problem with the sensor on yellow drum.

    If this still does not solve the problem, contact HP in Chat to perform a factory reset procedure from service menu.

I would try removing all cartridges, turn of the printer, turn it back on and wait for the error messages, then reinstall the cartridges.

Re-installing yellow cartridge in HP 2840


There is a gray button right of the LCD display that has a black arrow circling clockwise and four color dots (magenta/black/cyan/yellow). Push it until you see the "Rotating to Yellow" in the LCD display, then open up the top of the printer by pushing the big gray latch next to the picture card reader at the right front of the printer. You now have access to the cartridge. pull it out and examine it. If it is a new cartridge, check to see if you pulled the plastic dam strip out (which keeps the toner in place in shipment etc).

If a cartridge is removed from the machine and placed on its side, air may be introduced into the ink supply tubes. As a result, repeated cleaning will likely be required before normal print quality is restored.

  1. Unplug the machine from the AC power outlet, wait approximately 10 seconds and then plug it back in.
    If the date and time appear on the display, the issue is resolved. If the display continues to show NO CARTRIDGE, continues to Step 2.

  2. Open the scanner cover by lifting it from the right-hand side until it locks securely into the open position.

  3. Remove the black ink cartridge by pulling the white plastic hook (locked over the edge of the ink cartridge) toward you, then lifting the cartridge out.

  4. The LCD should prompt you to install the black ink cartridge.

  5. Reinstall the black cartridge. Press down FIRMLY on the top of the cartridge until it is fully seated. Push the white plastic hook towards the cartridge to verify it is fully latched over the cartridge's top edge. Repeat STEPS 2 - 4 to verify each that of the color cartridges (magenta, cyan and yellow) is installed properly, then continue to STEP.

  6. Close the scanner cover. The unit should begin cleaning automatically.

"Install Cartridge" Error


Have you tried to clean the contacts on tonercartridges and the opposite HV contacts in printer? The contacts are on the left side of toner cartridges

Display says I am out of yellow,


Hi, since you've already replace the yellow ink cartridge for several times and its not recognize. Your printer might have a defective printhead. You may take your printer to the nearest HP service center in your area so that they can look on your printer further.

PRINTER WON'T ACCEPT NEW INK CARTRIDGE
