Question about HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer

Grayish Page Color & Toner Deposits on Black Transfer Belt

My HP2600n worked perfectly for the last 1 1/2 years, with the original supplied cartridges, for small home office use. I replaced the black cartridge w/ OfficeMax remanufactured one. First few copies were okay, then all pages had a grayish dirty looking background. I ran every possible test and cleaning commands possible. I checked your site for possible help tips, and carefully cleaned the transfer belt with soft tissue and lint free coffee filters. Still no help. I reinstalled the original HP cartridge which still had some life to it - but problem continued. I contacted HP and ran through diagnostics on e-mail chat w/ a technician. Multiple cleanings, color calibrations, etc. He concluded it must a black transfer belt problem. The belt has no visible damage to it and did work perfectly until recently. The belt seems to gather a lot of toner dust, seems more reddish in color. Even after I clean it off, it returns after just running one copy of a document. The colored catridges all still show 27% capacity. I should hope I do not have to replace the catridges yet due to expense. Could any of the colored cartridges have developed a "leak" or problem that is causing the belt to get too much toner? Or does the transfer belt somehow degrade in quality and require replacement? This printer has not seen an excessive amount of use and I'm at my wits end trying to resolve this problem. Your advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Absolutely describes what I'm dealing with. Tried cleaning etc. as well, but no luck.

    I have the same problem, except that when I print only black (or grayscale) it is clear as can be, no grayish all over the page and no vertical color streaks.

    I also have the same problem and it occured at approximately the same time frame. I have replaced my black cartridge three times in the 2 years I have owned it and replaced all the color cartidges once each. I also have been unable to resolve this problem on my own or with the HP technical support.

Sorry to say this but your cartridges are bad. There are GREAT remaufactured cartridges out there and there are LOTS of BAD ones too. If you do not work directly with a local toner cartridge remanufacturer, you will end up with poor quality cartridges.

There NEVER should be a lot of dirt on the transfer belt. If there is then the cartridges are leaking.

FYI these carts can',t take high heat. Was this printer stored for a while in a hot place?

As for the 27% left, let it be known that these counts are rarely accurate.

Dell 2145cn Print is faded in middle of page

Check the transfer belt, also get a air spray can, look for the opening to the laser unit inside unit on top side, spray opening to remove dust or toner deposits. Lastly check fuser, it should have a uniform coating on it, if it looks faded in the corresponding area of fades you will have to change. Hope it helps.

I'm printing Microsoft Word 2008 for mac files to an HP2600n printer and the tables with shading that has any blue in it comes out black. Why? Why?

It's possible that the Cyan toner is low or depleted. If so, the printer will print the blue areas in black. This is a possible way to check:

1. Open your Applications folder and double click on "System Preferences."
2. When it opens, click on the printer icon with "Print & Scan" underneath it.
3. Click on the HP2600 printer on the left, then click "Options & Supplies"
4. Click on "Supply Levels." Check the Cyan toner cartridge. If it's low, then you'll have to buy and install a new one.

Excess cyan toner is on electrostatic transfer sheet even after wiping it. All black and white pages are printed with cyan background.I am even using original cartridges.

Since you have Cyan toner in places where it should not be then the only possible cause is a defective Cyan Toner cartridge. I worked on one just last week where the customer complained about Magenta toner on their prints. I also noticed Magenta toner on the Transfer Belt just as you see Cyan toner on the Transfer Belt. I replaced the Magenta Toner Cartridge and everything cleared up nicely. The Transfer Belt Unit can also cause similar problems but it would not be ONLY one color like Cyan. It would be a mixture of all colors. My bet is replace the Cyan toner and you will be fine. If you have an old empty one just shake it up a bit and try it as well. This might allow you to verify before buying a new cartridge.

Friends, I put a new transfer kit and laser toner cartridge to my HP Color LaserJet 8550n Printer and when I print, the paper go out completely in black. What could happen?

Put the original cartridges and transfer kit back in the printer.
Print to see if it prints ok. If it is ok, insert the cartridges one at a time, printing something after each replacement. Try the transfer belt last.
If all is ok, one of your replacements is bad. Repeat the swap outs as suggested above.

For anyone with a similar issue viewing this page (like me), first take a look at this video:
You want to follow those instructions and see if they work for you. If they don't, which they probably won't, take a look inside the black toner transfer unit (by removing the metal plate with the 5 screws, see video for further instructions), if the transfer unit is empty then this probably means the printer does not supply enough toner to the transfer unit. You could compare the amount of toner inside the transfer unit with that of another colour and you'll will probably find that there is comparatively barely any black toner in there. A temporary fix would be to manually add toner to the transfer unit by simply pouring it in there, after which the printer should print perfectly again. You might need to actually drill a hole in the black toner cartridge or buy a toner refill kit. Of course this is only a temporary fix and you'll have to do it again once you get the same error message. Unfortunately I'm not yet aware of a permanent solution.

Poor color printing

sound like the printer need a good cleaning. including the toner opening.
The toner may be expired. as the color pigment deteriorated with age.
usual color pigment store in a dry and cool place can last 2 years, if lefted out in the printer, it may only give you max 1 year.

Most of the time when I find this happening on a printer, not just Ricoh's it turns out to be the PCU (photo conductor unit). The color PCU is one unit and the black is a seperate unit. Hope this helps.

Quality of printing

For the black line check the toner cartridge roller (usually covered by a movable flap) to see if there is a black line on it. If not, then check the transfer belt (looks similar to a conveyor belt) for a line (probably not black in color, possibly white or grayish). If either of these parts have a line your best option is to replace that part. You could try cleaning VERY gently with a dry lint-free cloth but this may only clear up a little of the issue.

As for the fold, try running a paper path test, usually found under test, information, or diagnostic menu option on the printer itself. Try to find anything in the paper path that may catch the paper and cause it to fold.
