Question about D-Link DI 514 Wireless Router (DI-514)

1 Answer

My 615dir d-link router cuts out a few a times every day. I just hooked it up 2 days ago new. Wireless and wired lose signal and it says no internet conection. It also said LIMITED CONDUCTIVITY which might effect the signal. I have to power cycle it off and on for both the router and modem to get back online. I never had any problem before with my d-link wired router i had taken out to use this new wireless router. Any help would be great. Thanks

If it is doing that out of the box , take it back.

There are a few things you can try but 99% of the time they dont work.

Can't get internet to work with dir-615 router for more than a day or two at a time

If you have more than one device hooked up to the router, when the problem occurs try pinging another device. If you are able to then the router is working fine and most likely the modem is flaky and needs to be replaced. The modem supplies the internet connection, the router just applies NAT so that more than one device and use your public IP address. If this turns out to be the issue make sure you contact your ISP for any special instructions. For instances Comcast requires the MAC address located on the bottom or back of the modem in order for your connection to work, other ISP use proxy settings. Century Link has no requirements.

The problem lies in the wireless connection. Either the wireless adapter on the game console, or with your wireless router. Although wireless internet makes it easier to get online and play, it is actually the worst choice for online gaming. this is due to the lag time in the signal relay to the router. Wired internet is the best choice for online gaming. If you can hook your console up to a wired internet connection, then I suggest you do that.

1. check the current firmware updates
2. verify no other devices next the the router interfering with the signal i.e. cell phones, cordless phone, microwaves, TV sets.
3. check your router or cable modem for connection during time the wireless is dropping connectivity.

Using wireless internet with the d-link router from virgin, keeps disconnecting randomly few times a day, still connected to the network, just internet cuts out, it comes back after 60 seconds or so,...

Sure. I'll assume you have Windoze....Winders.... XP Home or Pro.
1. Disable 802.1x.
2. Disable the "power save" feature on your unspecified wireless
router.
3. Disable Super-G Turbo mode if necessary.

Internet drops over wireless router

Check to see what wireless mode you are using between the router and airport card. They are up to the "N" version now and if your router doesn't support and the airport is set to "auto" it could cause the issue. Try and match the settings with the router and see if that helps with dropping the signal.

Also are you using security with you wireless?
And how strong of a signal is it?

Check on your cables makes sure they are inserted properly and the cord should be free of kinks, scrapes or loose connections......Also check the back of your computer make sure your ethernet card (the one that has the green lights/LED's) is seated properly (not loose)....

Good Luck.....hope this helps...if not let us know....cheers

Lost internet connection

Change the wireless channel of the router to channel 1, 9 or 11. Usually other routers use channel 6. If there are other wireless devices on your area like a wireless cellphone, microwave, try to relocate them or the router itself. Place your router on a higher location so that you will be able to get a better signal.

Intermittent connectivity

Check to see if you are losing the DSL or Internet light on the modem when you lose your onnection. If so, then check with your IP provider, that may be the problem.

Desktop has very poor/slow connection through wireless router

This sounds like a spyware/virus problem. Try running the computer in safe mode(With networking) and see if it's any faster. You should also run your Anti-spyware,AV apps to check for problems.
