Question about OKI MICROLINE 590 Matrix Printer

Oki Microline 590

I have an Oki Microline 590. It will print then stop and the menu light comes on. Then it will start printing again. Then stop and so on. I know that the menu light blinking is saying that the print head is overheating. I have replaced the print head and also replaced the ribbon. And still the same results. Anymore things I can try?

I tried the LF/FF on power up and the printer didn't print anything. It went from one end to the other then back.

Try to perform an offline test print using your printer alone
To do this, power off your printer first
Press and hold the LF/FF button on the printer panel then power on. The printer will perform its own printing ( lines of pattern )
If it does it without problems ( no MENU lights came on ) the printer should be OK. If not try replacing the printer main control board.

Hope this helps

Re-install the printer ribbon. It's probably slipping or dragging on the head mechanism, and the printer synchronization control is slowing everything down to compensate.

Printing gibberish then feeding several lines, printing gibberish

If text did not line up as planned, your TOF ( top of forms adjustment ) isn't correct. Just correct it using the button on the panel. If after printing 1 page or so and then it begins to go out of place, most probably you hv set the page lenght incorrectly. To correct, enter the MENU on the panel and set the correct page length.
Lastly if printing garbage, most probably you have selected the wrong emulation on the MENU. Correct by entering MENU mode ( press ' SHIFT+MENU ' button together ) and select the correct emulation.

Hope this helps.

What driver are you using for this printer? Try loading a Epson LQ1050 driver and try again.

How do i identify the font settings set in my printer

Your printer is designed to change font and pitch from the front panel. Just press the SEL/MENU button to take the printer offline. Then press the PRINT QUALITY button (to the right side of the panel) to make the lights switch to different fonts. Finally, press SEL/MENU to activate the changes and return the printer to online status. Be advised, these changes will not be permanent. To make a change permanent, you need to read the user's manual which I can email to you. Finally know that Windows does not pay attention to these settings, they are only goog in text applications such as DOS.
