try other known good windows installer. if it boot, then the problem is in xp installer, if it not. try other external cd-rom drive. also be sure the disc rom drive are dvd rom drive because a cd rom drive cannot read dvd disc but a dvd rom drive can read cd rom disc installer
if u want to get recover ur system with the help of recovery cd then first of all if u have done first boot device cdrom on bios setup then restart ur system . while booting the system u have to continue press the 'enter' to boot from cd rome then ur system will boot with cd rom then u can get recovery.
Depending on what bios it has it may not show the cd drive. All you can do is set it to auto or if it has the option to cd or atapi. Then set the boot order so that the cd is looked at before the hard drive and you should then boot off of the cd.
Go check your BIOS to make sure the cd rom drive is recognized by the system first, as if it is not, you will not be able to use it.
If the cd drive is removable, try removing it and reinstalling it first.
If the drive is recognized press the F12 key to get into the boot selection and choose CD Boot.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck.
Boot from your cd rom using your windows cd. Adjust your BIOS setting to boot from cd rom. Follow the instruction carefully. When partition editor screen come, break all partition and resize partition as your choice. Than install windows on drive 'C'. You r done. If you cant boot, try using another bootable cd. Let me know whats next.
got to have a new cd-rom drive mate, most practical approach.
other options are network boot (done in offices with many computers), USB boot (if your BIOS supports it & you need to have a USB device with the bootable image of the system disk), etc.
Test the CMOS BATTERY..TO MAKE SURE ITS GOOD IF NOT REPLACE.If it test good leave out for 5-10 minutes replace.motherboard bios should now beat default settings.reenter the bios.move cd to first boot.save changes.if you do not save changes it will not work.place.computer should now boot from disk.

to boot from a Cd drive, the very first thing u gotta do is to enter the CMOS setup at ur system startup and change the boot device preferences, as
first boot device: CD Rom,
Second boot device as : hdd0.
then save changes and reboot ur computer, then reinsert the bootable disc and it should work.
