Question about Computers & Internet
Hi I will try to help you
your overheat problem may be dirt and dust inside,or the fan may have quit.you should feel air moving out through the back.as far as it saying no hard disk, your harddrive is bad,or your motherboard isnt recognizing it.installing windows wont help.there has to be a drive present to install to.
I would check on the warranty.if it dosnt have warranty and you have some knowledge of the working components.you could take your laptop apart and clean it.the dust can stop airflow causing overheat.overheating may be causing your hardrive not to show up.have seen that before.cleaned it and it worked.no guarentee though.
hope this helps, 357reaper.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Problem 1: Loss of either the power supply fan or the CPU fan can create that problem.
Problem 2: Windows XP may not have the SATA driver on the setup disc for your machine thus the install doesn't "see" a drive. There is additional info at this link (at the HP website) about how you can integrate the drivers into your XP install.
You shouldn't need to load Vista again but most likely you could use a dual boot for your machine if you wanted to. For the fan issue you may want to place it into service if you aren't comfortable taking apart a laptop for checking or replacing a fan. Generally the parts can be sourced online for your machine (and usually cheaper than through a service facility) but it comes down to comfortability with the replacement procedure when deciding to put it into service.
