SOURCE: Toaster Loading handle wont staY down

I have researched this toaster quite extensively, without any success as to actual solutions. Usually these machines have either a solenoid activated lever that holds the toast down, although magnetic systems are not uncommon. These may be avtivated by a thermostat, an optical "brownness" meter or a timer. Usually the cost of replacing this would be as much as a new toaster due to labour costs, however it may possibly be fixable - could you add a photo of the internal workings - this might help. Unfortunately many other purchasers appear to have similar problems and claim to have had little success with either dealer or manufacturer. The number of toasters of this model offered for sale second-hand as new at ridiculously low prices makes me suspect that there is a fundamental problem with the model. Use any warranty you have, but unless you wish to write a lot of letters/mails then i suspect a new toaster might be your best bet. Availability of spares for this toaster is another issue - I have been unable to find anyone who claims to supply these, although individual components are almost certainly from different manufacturers and could be sourced. If you can arrange a photo of the toaster when open (reasonably close up and general view) then I may be able to help more. Apologies for no actual "Solution" yet.

SOURCE: 4 slice toaster when pressed

Try cleaning the bread crumbs out of it. If you get enough piled up under the latch mechanism, you can't push it down far enough to engage it.

You may be able to do an adequate job by opening the bottom cover - most toasters are made so it's easily removed for this very purpose. If not, you'll need to pull off the knobs and remove screws so you can take off the top cover. Be careful not to touch the heater wires with any tools - after they've been used a while they become rather brittle and break easily, and even a scratch can cause them to erode and fail. I assume you know to unplug the toaster before working on it.

SOURCE: toast wont stay down in toaster it wont lock in

I'm at the same crossroad. Thry holding down the lever for more than 4-secs. The light will blink once, then it is as though the circuit is over-ridden and a toasting cycle will begin. This might help to eliminate wether you have a mechanical or electrical issue. Mine appears to be electrical. I'm now investigating if it is the timing or relay?

Hi my girlfriend just gave me this toaster, and would like to know what the lighted buttons are for thanks

Since you don't mention the make or model number of the toaster or its age I can only make the following guesses.
It might be an electronic model. To test if this is the case, leave the toaster unplugged and push the lever of the toaster down. If it does not stay down it is an electronic toaster. If it stays down then it is NOT electronic.
The lights might be lighted push buttons.
If you plug the toaster in then put a slice of bread or two in and push the lever handle down and one light comes on then this is probably a dual purpose pushbutton. It indicates that the heating elements are on and if you push it will cancel the toasting cycle and the bread slices should pop up.
If there is a button beside the above button it could be for extending the toaster cycle time a bit longer to compensate for a thicker slice or a denser bread like a bagel. If you push it, it will light up to let you know that the cycle has been extended for this reason.
If there is a button beside this one, it could be for extending the toasting cycle to compensate for a frozen slice of bread or whatever, like a bagel or even a frozen waffle.
If you find the make and model for your toaster, it might be on the bottom somewhere, google it to see if you can download an instruction manual for it.
Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Open the toaster up and look inside by the levers, there should be a little piece that will keep the lever down, if this is missing, then you may need to replace the toaster, if not, then the little piece may be stuck, you can use the following to try and loosen it up,
