Question about Frigidaire FRT18S6AQ Top Freezer Refrigerator
Freezer doesn't get colder than around 9 to 15 degrees F. I'd like to get it at least to 0°F. Temp control on both fridge and freezer are cranked to maximum cold, and it has had days to stabilize. Fridge gets just a bit below 40°F when cranked to maximum cold.
It isn't laboring. It cycles on and off infrequently, and seems to be in good working order. So it seems like a limitation of the thermostat. Is there any kind of internal adjustment?

Welshons, Take a look at the picture Im posting. Did your evaporator look like it? If so your system may be restricted. This is a pretty common problem in Frigidaire top mounts. The good news is that it would be covered under warranty if it is not over 5 years old. As long as your condensor fan is running and the condensor is clean, evaporator not frosted up and evap fan running. I would think that you have a weak compressor or a restriction. Yes it is very possible that exactly what you are describing can be happening. Also try a thermometer frozen in a cup of water to get more accurate temps. Also 33 in the fridge is very normal for the cold control set on max and the heater installed. Let me know the temps in the frz with the thermometer sensing product temp not air temp which fluctuates often.

SOURCE: Burnt smell inside freezer.
Generally speaking it is the refrigerator control that controls the compressor operation. Refrigerator is cooled by air from the freezer. When the refrigerator gets down to its designed temperature it shuts off the compressor. The freezer control determines how much air is allowed to flow into the refrigerator section and there-by controls the freezer temperature.

You may be having a freon issue. Read some more info about this here. I type the longer version on my site. There are also factory service manuals to that may be helpful.

Info relating specifically to the Frigidaire FRT18B5ABB:
1.Refrigerator unplugged remove the bottom back panel. (Access cover with label. The rectangular shaped panel on the back, at the bottom) Place the screws in a container.
Also remove the Kickplate Grille in the front, and the defrost pan.
2.Use the wand tip on your vacuum cleaner, and vacuum this area out. Pay special attention to the condenser coils, and the fan. Use care as you don't want to bend the fan blades. After you have vacuumed up as much as possible, see if your vacuum has where you can attach the hose to blow air through it. An air compressor, hose, and air nozzle would be REAL handy right now! Blow the condenser coils, and all areas clean of any gunk. (Hair, spider webs, etc.) If this is not feasible for you, you'll need some sort of long, thin, dust 'bunny', and have to dislodge this 'gunk' physically. Then vacuum.
3.BE SURE to replace the bottom back panel, (Access Cover)! It is a VERY necessary item! If your fridge doesn't have one at present, make a temporary one of cardboard, and tape it on. This access cover is needed.
If your refrigerator side is only cool, and your freezer is cold, you may have a problem with the Cold Control, (Temperature Control), or the Defrost Timer. (Timer-Defrost)
