Look at the screen closely, if you can see the only a little bit of the image but only very faintly, there is a possibility it is your backlight because the laptop is probably older than 3 years. If you see some of the image, without any backlight, then you have to replace the ccfl bulb of the screen. It is a quite difficult repair but it can be done buy the user. If you look for guides online you will find instructions with images that give youan idea. I work for company that does Laptop repair in NYC and we do this repair frequently. You can get exact ccfl lamp for your screen type on ebay, it's all about the right length of the bulb.

Try to connect the laptop to an external monitor and see if you get video, if so you may have to replace your screen, Also try with the laptop on hold down the Fn key and press the F5 key several times. Hope this helps

I have A Dell 1720 when I unplug the ac I get a black screen but the laptop is steel running but if I goto safe mode the screen well come on. Replaced battery same problem.

You might have "Sleep mode" or "Blank screen" mode in "on battery status.
Right click on the desktop, click "personalize". Click "Screen Saver", click "Change power settings". Click "Choose when to turn off the display". You will find many options you want "on battery" or "Plugged in".
Hope this helps

Hi i have a dell latitude 13 when i tried to use it the screen was blank but if i look from a certain angel i can just about make out graphics on screen what might cause this hope u can help

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Turns on but screen is blank doesnt load windows xp or noyhing just blank screen

Sounds like a corruption problem within the hard drive. Can you boot in to BIOS? If so then definitly a problem within your hard drive. Best thing to do is reload the operating system. Now if you put the disk in and your can see it then the video and display are good.

The laptop screen is almost blank/black. an external monitor is working ok. when i close the lid of the laptop and open it again the screen comes on for a sec but then goes off again almost blank/black....

As per Dell Technical support LCD kit needs to be Replaced.

I Would recommend to
Run PSA Diagnostics. Check for PSA Error codes

if unable see display during PSA Diagnostics use External monitor to make note of Error code.

Check Error code on support.dell.com

If no Error codes. Then Only option is replace LCD kit
