SOURCE: need Wiring Schematic/Diagram for 89 Astro GT16 boat

In all honesty, its probably impossible to get the original wiring diagram. Also, I would be willing to bet that there has been alot of re-wiring and changes made to the wiring and electrical system of the boat. If you describe exactly what your trying to do, install fix or re-wire I may be able to better assist

I have 1991 mpv v6 3.0 engine. It will not start. I changed the ignition coil and the igniter coil. what else could cause no spark?

Several things, actually. There could be no battery power at the distributor due to a blown fuse or a bad main relay. You could have a bad distributor cap, bad rotor, bad ignition cable between the coil and the distributor cap, a bad Engine Control Unit, a bad distributor pick-up coil, or any of the wiring in-between. (see schematic)

I have just bought a boat with an old Mercury 500 two stroke 4 cylinder motor. There is no spark at the plugs. What am i doing wrong. Is there a kill switch on the Motor?

if you have no spark at your spark plugs then you have to check if your coil is getting power and if it is sending out power. find your distributor and the centre plug wire and follow itto a 6-7 inch cylinder, that will be your coil. take a test light and ground it on the engine and touch the positive side of your coil with the need tip of your test light, if it lights then you have power getting to it, in that case the coil isnt sending any power to your distributor, take your coil and get a new one and try that. Make sure you hook up the wires the same way on the new one or you might have to y another one.....goodluck....cal in nova scotia

Looking for wiring schematics for 1995 chev kodiak 6500.need to trace wiring.. i have no ground to ground side of coil.intake heater is fine. need help

the coil receives power all the time with key on, the ground side is toggled to make the coil spark, you shouldn't be able to detect ground unless its running and if you do ground it while running you will find it will die. the pickup coil, and ignition module in the distributor control the spark, and injector pulse, if it won't spark, and its the origional distributor, I usually just replace the whole thing with a reman from carquest, napa, etc, usually 100 to 150 with exchange, its cheaper than replacing the separate parts, and all new you can't go wrong. this is a common problem with any mid 90's gm v8

I have a 1978 starcraft boat with a 470 mercruser in it or a 170 or 180 ford engine we have spark to the coil but not to the distribtor what is the point setting or what are we doing wrong

I am a bit reluctant to jump on this one as you have spark at the coil and not to the distributor. If you have spark at the coil... the points are working. It I don't want to sound like a wise arse here but it would appear the coil wire from coil to the distributor itself is bad.

However.... there could be other problems like a missing rotor in the distributor... or the carbon and spring have fallen out of the distributor cap internal center post.

The above seems to be the only thing that makes sense at the moment. Like I said the points have to be working to have spark at the coil.

Dwell should be 29 - 31 and the timing 8 - 10. I know at the moment it is impossible to check either.
You can set the point gap at .020 to start... then adjust dwell once you have figured out where the missing spark is.

Respond if you need more help but refrain from rating this post until we figure out what is causing your problem and have cured the no spark issue.

My boat Merc Cruiser V8 4brl, Thunderbolt IV 1978. Won't run well or idle, it back fires stutters and dies. This happens after it worms up. I rebuilt carb, cleaned out the old fuel, new fuel tank, Runs...

you need to replace your coil it is only about 15.00 it doe not sound like a fuel problem if the coil doesnt work you need to look at your cdi if you have the outdated box it will be mounted on the distributor it about a 1/4 inch thick 3 inches long and 2 inches wide with one flat plug going in it. before you do that change your plugsand wires wait im sorry i just saw the year of the boat now were getting somewhere you have a bad codenser if your boat has points under the distributor cap the condeser is the little siver cylinder while your in there you should just get a kit cap, rotor, button, points and condesor the points should be set at 25 to35 thousands i asume that 1978 is theyear modle if not like i said the new cdi box is out of date and very expensive $498.00 to be excact i would do a good tune up before turning to that but if it is a 1978 the distributor tune will fix your problem kit is about 70.00
