The problem is that supposedly before you can receive picture messages, you have to send one first. Tell a friend that you are going to test it out on them and send them a picture message. It will take a while for it to go through
Then all the texts that you receive before with the "download' button in them in the place of a picture automatically turn into pictures.
Unfortunately as it stands there is no functionality for saving your MMS pictures directly onto your phone, the only way it can be done is you have to forward the message to your Gmail account, which will then arrive on your phone and from there you should be able to open the email and download the picture. To do so follow these steps
From the Home screen, touch the Applications button.
Touch Messaging.
Touch the message that contains the picture or video.
Press and hold in an empty space in the message.
Touch Forward.
Type a space or other character in the forwarded message (in subject or body of message)
At To, type the e-mail address.
Press the Menu key and touch Send.
Once received in the email this can be saved but the problem is when saved it may save it without a file extension therefore making it unviewable later
This should help and do let me know

G1 Pictures Messaging

It should be picture size issue. -Take a Picture -Open the picture in the picture browser
-Crop the picture (Can select the entire picture if so desired)
-Save
-Send the newly cropped picture in an MMS . Downsizing the image to 50-60kb. . should work.

Copying pictures to my g1 from my messages

There is an app in the Marketplace called Save MMS. Install this, and you should be able to save them right to your memory card.

Why cant my g1 download picture messages?

Have you tried turning your phone off? I know that with mine I dont turn it off for almost a week and my wi-fi goes screwy. Once i turn it off for 5 minutes the phone works like brand new. Also, you may want to check and see how large the picture is the G1 can only download a certain amount of mb (?) on a single message. Not an expert, hope this helps.

Saving jpeg from email to g1 phone

you have to open the e-mail message, then open the picture by double clicking on it. then options----> save as, then it will let you choose to save to memory card, do that, and you should find it using your file explorer in my documents ---> my pictures folder on the memory card. if you didnt find it, try my documents ----> my pictures on the phone memory. let me know how it works out ?
