Question about Canon PIXMA MP530 All-In-One InkJet Printer

"waiting for report" won't go away and now machine refuses to fax

Cancelled a fax in progress and a notice saying waiting for report popped up and won't go away ... Held reset and printed reports manually. No effect. In use memory light on also. Unpluging unit didn't help.

On my Canon MX310, the display says "Waiting for Report". Fax Memory is clear, but the In Use/Memory light stays on.

Try this step ... found it on Canon's website

Issue: ERROR LCD: WAITING FOR REPORT
Solution: Set [AUTO PRINT RX] to ON (MX300 / MX310)

AUTO PRINT RX When [AUTO PRINT RX] is set to [OFF], incoming received faxes will be temporarily stored to memory and transaction reports (TX, RX and Activity) remain in memory. The default setting is [ON], which means incoming received faxes and transaction reports will automatically print. The fax machine will not automatically print a received fax and will store it in memory in the following conditions.
  • Ink is low or has run out
  • The paper size and type is not set correctly
  • Paper has run out
  • The Output Tray is closed
To set AUTO PRINT to ON, please follow these steps.
  1. Press the <FAX> button to enter the Fax menu.

  2. Press the <Menu> button. [FAX SETTINGS] is displayed

  3. Press the left or right arrow button to select [RX SETTINGS] , then press <OK> two times.

  4. Press the left arrow to select [ON], then press <OK>.

Note: When AUTO PRINT RX is set ON, a sub-menu will appear to PRINT WHEN NO INK.

  5. At sub-menu PRINT WHEN NO INK, decide if you'd like the machine to continue to print incoming received faxes if ink is low.

CAUTION: When this option is set ON, the fax machine will not monitor the ink level of the ink cartridges. If ink is low or out, received faxes will print with streaks or blank. Furthermore, once the fax is printed, it will be deleted from memory.
    1. To print received faxes when ink is low or out, press the left or right arrow to select [ON] and then press <OK>.
    2. To store received faxes in memory when ink is low or out, press the left or right arrow to select [OFF] and then press <OK>.

  6. Press the <Stop/Reset> repeatedly to return to Fax standby mode.

It will not scan instead it states it is not connected to the port, I tried several things including going through all the screen help supplied by Canon's website. it refuses to get out of fax report...

Try switching everything off, and on again.
Make sure you switch on the scanner before the computer.
If this fails, contact the manufacturer direct. They are usually quite helpful.

If your Comcast service is DSL, you may need a DSL adapter to work with older analog telephone devices, like your fax machine. You should be able to find them readily available at $10-$15.

Canon mx700 fax report problems

after emailing canon support, the answer is this: 1) the fax paper size must be "letter" - 8.5-11". 2) reset all settings through settings menu. the fax will then print reports (and also every report that was not printed before).

Says memory full but nothing in memory

Memory full errors can be caused by a couple of things. When you send a fax the machine settings and the amount of installed memory can cause this. Check the resolution you have the fax machine set at, usually it is set on something like "text" or "draft", if it is set on somthing like "fine" or "super fine" you will fill up the memory faster. Also if you are loading the document into memory before it actually connects with the other machine this could happen. Try looking for a switch or setting on your machine that says "direct". If you have a direct send enabled, your machine will not load the image into memory, it will wait for the other machine to answer and start receiving before actually doing any transmitting of the document. These are just general ideas as you did not describe the make or model of your machine. Hope this helps.

Fax in memory light stays on

I've had this 830 for about 5 months now and am very impressed with its speed, but the glitches, Holy Smoke.
The one you're describing is one I've had before. The only solution I've found is to unplug the machine, wait about one minute and plug it back in. All is then OK. The problem with that system is that if there are any more docs in memory, you've lost them.
I'm having a similar problem with receiving faxes. The first sheet prints, and then the display indicates that there is a 'fax output error check page size and press OK'. The memory light shows that there are more pages of the fax (I presume) that need to be printed, but they won't be because of this error. Of course one checks the size and presses OK but it simply prints out the same page followed by the same error message. This could go on for eons if one would allow it. I then have to unplug the printer, wait and plug it back in, and again all is well, but I've lost the documents in memory.
There are so many little quirks with this machine I am almost tempted to go back to my miserable HP, but I've chosen to keep working with the MP830 with the hopes that after years of learning its idiosyncracies, there will eventually be a class action suit against Canon which I will be part of, to cover the cost of psych services and physical therapy (bas shoulder from throwing the machine out the window.

Fax memory

This thread might be dead but I found that you CAN turn off report printing, which also frees up the memory, in the Fax->Menu->Maintenance/settings->Device Settings->Fax Settings->TX Settings->TX Report. Turn reporting off and it clears memory also. Hard to find but its there.
