Question about Canon PIXMA MX850 Multifunction Printer

How to reset the Canon MX850 Printer, after ink change and counter reset? After I had changed ink cartidge and reset ink counter, I was able to print without problem. But this was only for a few days. Now I see an error message that the ink volume/status cannot be correctly read.

    Hi all,
I refilled my pgi5BK but the printer displays 'Cannot detect ink level'
All other colors were refilled and no errors.

The printer refuses to do anything other than show the error message.
    Thanks

One way is to hold the 'Stop/Reset' button for at least 5 seconds until the display shows a new message about ignoring the current ink condition. This does not reset the chip but it does allow you to continue printing with the refilled ink tanks.

The reset will only work as long as the ink tank is in the printer. If it is removed or refilled you need to reset the status. The printer will continually show the low ink status but will allow printing anyway.

The cartridge without chips will not work once the printer has set the low ink warning. You must use cartridge with a good chip then the above process will work.

This advice doesn't help me!

When I pressed the Reset-Button nothing happend. The Error Message comes again and again. Also when I pressed it 4 seconds and more.

I think, there must be an other way to reset the printer.

I use new ink cartridges without chips. I only use the old chip and put it in the new cartridges. It worked every time till now. One of the cartridges isn't work now. I didn't now the reason.

Some Canon printers require a reset of the "print counter" this is a method used by the manufacturers to get more money from the printer. If you can find a service shop they should be able to reset the counter for you. Ask them how to do it for your model and then you can save yourself the hassle in the future.

Where can I get a Parts List for a Canon MX850 MF Unit

Ink Absorber Full

This may clear the ink absorber problem.
There is ink absorbers located at both ends of the printer where the ink head move.
To dry the ink absorber, power up the printer and open the cover so the ink cartridges and print head will move to the middle of the printer.
Then take several sheets of absorbent tissue, fold it into a pad and place it inside the printer over the ink absorber on the far left hand side of the printer to soak up the excess ink. You may need to change the absorbent tissue a few times. Then repeat the same procedure on the right hand ink absorber.
Close the lid and the printer should now function normally.

It is saying that the ink absorber is almost full how can we change this

This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible. Press the button to cancel the error. You will still be able to print for a short period. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.

Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. There are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk. I will not advise you as it is not a permanent solution.

I have a Canon MX850, I don't understand why my big black ink cartridge is full and it uses only the small one, how can I change to use the big one?

The printer use big PGI-5bk cartridge to print documents and text. When you print photos or some other pictures printer use small CLI-8bk cartridge because this cartridge has a photo ink.If you print text and it print blank page that mean the nozzle on PGI-5 cartridge is clogged.Try cleaning test on maintenance menu on printer.

Make sure you are not printing with "photo" settings. Reset to defaults from the preferenceies, select plain paper. See if that solves it.

Clean the heads, the printer is not reading cartidges. Is yours a model that needs the ink levels reset to funtion correctly, then do this too.
