Intermittent wi-fi My Sony Vaio NR21z has built in wifi - shows connection to Lan and internet but slow or non-existent web page access - time outs repeatedly. On ethernet, or a separate wifi dongle (not the built in) connection works fine. How do I find/replace the wifi card? Thanks

Most laptops you can just flip them over and open an access panel. Usually just 2 or 3 screws are all that stand in your way. Some laptops like 1000 Model HP's require you to remove the entire plastic panel on the bottom. You will recognize the wireless card inside by two distinct cables that attach to two corners of it. It is usually 1.5 x 1.5 inches big and will have one cable hooked to main and one to auxillary. These cards are available for purchase online if you google internal wireless cards notebook. There may be other types out there but i run into this one almost every time!

What parts are needed to set up wifi?

That machine does not appear to have any PCI slots, or built-in WI-Fi. You may be able to get a USB 2 Wi-Fi adapter. Just make sure the one you get works with your Operating System. Also, you will have to have a Wi-Fi router to connect to your Internet Service Provider.

I have internet connection but cannot access internet

Bluetooth connections allow devices to connect without the use of wires or cables.
Some users of the Sony Vaio laptop computer have encountered problems with the connection of Bluetooth devices with their computer.

The problem lies with turning on the Vaio's Bluetooth function.
This is turned on through the computer's Wireless Switch Settings manager.

The icon for this is in the system tray in the taskbar when the computer is first purchased.
Double-click the "Wireless Switch Settings" icon in the system tray of the taskbar.

It is a a blue-green icon with "LAN" in one corner and "B" in the other.
Check the "Enable Bluetooth Device" setting in the Bluetooth Device section.

Click "OK."

If the device was already enabled, change the wireless LAN from "2.4GHz" to "5GHz" because, as the warning message should say, using the 2.4GHz wireless LAN and the Bluetooth device can make the connection unstable.

Click the "Apply" button after the appropriate boxes are checked to activate the Bluetooth signal. A blue light should come on near the computer's on/off switch for the Wi-Fi radio.

Click "OK." Another dialog box should appear explaining that the Wireless Switch Settings icon should now be in the taskbar.

Use this icon if you need to turn off or on the Bluetooth device in the future.

Is it possible to get a wireless connection to the vaio PCV-RX221

Hi,
Vaio PCV-RX221 does not have Wi-Fi capabilities. If you wish to connect it to Wi-fi, you can use a USB Wi-fi LAN Card, which can be connected to any USB port of the PC and can be used to recieve wi-fi signals/ data. Note that PCI Wi-fi LAN Cards are also available, which are internal and added to PCI Port of the PC.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

As soon as i went from a 'B' to a 'G' router, my internet has slowed dow , worse than dial-up

The Belkin Wireless G Router lets users share files and a broadband Internet connection among their computers-without using networking cables. It features 802.11g technology that makes accessing files and networked peripherals-such as hard drives, printers, CD-ROMs, and DVDs-easier than ever. 802.11g technology provides you with networking speeds nearly five times faster than the current Wi-Fi (802.11b) standard. An integrated, 4-port 10/100Base-T Ethernet switch also allows you to connect wired computers to the network. 802.11g technology is the easiest wireless network to implement. The Router uses the wireless 802.11g 2.4GHz standard to offer you 400 feet of wireless coverage. 802.11g technology is backward compatible with the 802.11b Wi-Fi networking standard, so it allows you to implement faster wireless technologies in combination with existing 802.11b Wi-Fi networks.

so if use "g" type router the speed cannot be slow there may be some other problem....that let the internet speed down....check that......
