Instaling a new pilot light assembly inBryant 234B boiler. The wires to the emergency shut off are not color coded in wiring diagram. Does it matter which wire (only 2 wires)goes where?

Hi Anonymous.
An emergency shut-off loop will almost always be set up so that the circuit is closed during normal operation, with a press of the emergency off button breaking, or opening the circuit. It's set up that way so that if a wire in the emergency circuit breaks, or gets disconnected, the system will shut down, rather than allow operation where the emergency off won't work.

Functionally speaking, if you only have two wires to the switch/button, then which way you connect them won't matter, since the switch will complete the circuit regardless of which way you flow the current. From a Code and consistency standpoint, one of the wires will be ground, and one of them will be hot. Most switches have leads indicating ground and hot on them, and you should be consistent with that. If nothing else, if someone else is later servicing or replacing the switch, also not knowing which wire is which, then they have less risk of mistaking a hot wire for a ground and getting zapped.

Depending on the setup, and whether it's AC or DC on the loop, you should be able to use either a voltmeter or an electricians hot-wire-detector to tell which lead is the hot lead.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Using 12-3/gnd how do I wire 2 gfis with protected outlets downstream?

Need clarification...12-3 means 3wires (usually black, red and white) plus a ground wire. A black white and ground wire is 12-2. Standard GFCI wiring is black to gold (screw) white to silver and ground wire to green. GFCI's have more than one way to be wired but normally come with directions. GFCI's can also be wired in conjunction with standard plugs. There are websites that will also show AC wiring diagrams which may be helpful.

Need wiring diagram or schematic

What do you need the diagram for? Is this a switch replacement? Turn off the power at the circuit breaker box and remove the cover plate to see the wiring or is this a new installation that needs to have wiring ran to it?

Can you send a scematic showing how to wire an intermatic pool pump timer to a polaris intermatic timer so that when the pool pump shuts off so will the polaris pump yet the polaris timer clock continues...

No. I don't have a wiring schematic without knowing what voltage you are using, specifically what Intermatic timer you have, specifically what wires you have coming from breaker box, what wires are on the pump, and what pump rating plate says, what the wiring diagram shows on side of pump, whether you are wiring a 2-speed pump to a single-speed timer, specifically what is the polaris timer clock, and why this pump needs two timers if that's what you mean.
Add a comment with specific information so electrician is not guessing.

I am a Home Inspector. How do I override the timer controls to produce heat at the ETS units so my clients can see that they work. I put the timer lever in the manual position however after 30 minutes no...

You posted under ET70415CR. This is a complicated timer with many wiring and programming capabilities.
Open following links for ET70000 series image and ET70414CR instructions:
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/ET70115C-copy.jpg
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Intermatic-et70415cr.pdf

Among the features, this timer can be programmed for pulse or momentary action to control external latching contactors:
Page 36 of instruction says:
Note: Using the manual On/Off keys to switch this type of contactor On or Off may not provide the expected result and may cause damage to the contactor coil. For this application external Momentary Pushbutton may be added for both circuits or the circuits may be programmed for override pulses.
So instruction is saying that additional wiring is needed to override specific types of circuits.

The timer has 8 internal contactors, and each can be controlled separately by the timer to control 8 different electric circuits. This is called 8-channel timer since all eight timing contactors can be programmed separately.
Each contactor is wired separately to control any type of electrical appliance including 440V lights, and 24V alarm system, and 240V heat, etc.
For example contactor1 might be for lights, and contactor2 for controlling a latching contactor, and contactor3 for controlling a boiler, contactor4 etc...

To override the system, you have to identify which contactor controls the system in question.
Then there are 2 options:
1) Reprogram the timer on that channel
2) change the wiring temporarily: Each of the 8 contactors has 3 screw terminals: COM, NO, NC. If there are wires on all 3 NO NC COM terminals, you have to reprogram timer. If there is a wire on NC terminal -or- NO terminal, typically you would move that wire to the COM terminal to by-pass timing operations.

I have a DL-3PSLHW-WH switch with no wiring diagram. It is single pole or 3-way. Need diagram.

You posted under Lutron 3-way dimmer.

You didn't say the number of screw terminals on device or color of those screws.
If your device has two brass screws, then it is single pole.
If your device has 2 brass screws and 1 dark screw, then device is 3-way
If you are replacing 3-way switch, identify wire on dark screw >> connect this wire to dark screw on dimmer. Other two wires connect to either brass screw.

If device has wires instead of screws, the color of those wires is an important clue.
Answer back with the colors of those wire and it is easier to help.

Different dimmers are suitable for different types of lighting.
In an effort to help you, I searched my files for Lutron dimmers.
Lutron has 17 dimmer types, with numerous models under each type
They don't show DL-3PS
http://www.lutron.com/Products/StandAloneControls/Dimmers-Switches/Pages/DimmersSwitches.aspx

Lutron has NT-3PS
http://www.lutron.com/Products/StandAloneControls/Dimmers-Switches/NovaTDimmer/Pages/ModelNumbers.aspx

The NT-3PS is a 3-way dimmer.
Here is wiring manual:

If the help above does not get you going, answer back with more information and we can help.
