Well, if you live in sweden---you have 2 years warranty, but i dont think you do that so the warranty is one year.

You can get it repaired...but it will cost..

    Good luck

I can only think of 2 things. it may have overheated to the point of damaging the RAM or it may have overheated or just moved the screen connection. either way there is no way you can fix this on your own and you will have to take it to a computer lab they will be able to help you alot more. sorry for the limited solution good luck with it.

I have a Compaq NW9440 Mobile Workstation - it keeps shutting down every 15 minutes or so. At times, it will not restart right away. I thought it may have been the CMOS Battery, so I replaced it. It's...

The most common problem you get with a laptop is overheating, this can cause for it to shut down while operating to prevent more damage.

You will know if your laptop is overheating if it happens one ore more of the following:
-The keyboard and the bottom of your laptop are very hot when the laptop is working.
-The CPU fans are working all the time at maximum rotation speed and operate much louder than before.
-The laptop suddenly shuts down by itself without warning. When it just started, the laptop was shutting down after 1-2 hours and how it shuts down after 5-10 minutes of operation.
-The laptop works fine when it runs idle, but shuts down as soon as you start using any memory demanding applications (DVD player, image editing software, video editing software, etc.).
Follow this steps to avoid overheating:
-Don't use your laptop in full sunlight for extended periods
-Don't leave the laptop in a closed car on a sunny day
-Don't place the laptop on or near extreme heat sources, such as radiators, hot air vents
-Turn off your laptop before putting it in your carry bag
-Turn off your laptop when not in use for a long period
-Work on an even surface as much as possible, not on your lap!
-Clean the air vents in your laptop regularly by using a can of compressed air
-Get more space under your computer by propping it up on something when it's on a desk
-Consider purchasing a laptop cooling pad
-Consider purchasing an external fan

To clean your laptop's cooling system:
-Shut down the laptop ie do not leave it suspended, sleeping or hibernating.
-Unplug all cables from the unit and remove the battery pack
-Get a can of compressed air and blow it into all vents around your computer - this should clear out any dust and hair.
-Do Not use a vacuum cleaner.

If it is not overheating, then it is a hardware failure. Could be the RAM memory, or the motherboard. You can only corner the problem by testing with different RAM modules or motherboard.

Try moving it to another room and see what happens ,it could be interference.
also vacuum the air vents on the laptop.
It sounds like a hardware problem ,if it still has warranty then you should take it back

My computer keeps turning on and off. I thought it might be an overheating problem and so i cleaned up my fan and i didn't see any change. It is not also a problem from the battery from the charger or...

I think you were on the right track with overheating. Many laptops have more than one set of input and output air vents. Maybe you cleaned out one but missed another one. Since you said the laptop turns off when you place it on the floor I'd look for partially clogged vents on the bottom of computer. Brush away any external dust on the vents with an old toothbrush. Then try blowing air through the vent holes with one of those cans of compressed air made for dusting off keyboards. Sometimes the dust is buried inside the machine. I once worked on a Sony laptop that I had to take apart to completely clean out the vents.

Starting the laptop

Unplug all external devices. Remove the battery and ac adapter. Then try again with just the ac adapter and no battery. If it works, turn it off and put the battery back in. Everything should be fine.

What your daughter did is absolutely harmless, unless your laptop is set-up not to go to standby mode then eventually hibernate when the lid is closed. In that case if it was put into a laptop bag while running it may have overheated. If that's the case it may need a motherboard or CPU, have it checked out.

When I turn Laptop on, after a little while say 10 minutes the screen turns black and loses almost all color but the rest of the computer works fine, any thoughts?

Hi,
I,d assume its an actual Monitor panel Fault. if the laptop is as the above specification. it,s quite old. therefore i,d suspect the tft ( screens ) Inverter Board is overheating, or The cfl ( laptop screen tube ) is on it,s way out. A new or replacement screen may solve this. But before you spend any money as screens can go from £80+ Or $160. You may have a motherboard component overheating, and shutting the display panels voltage down. unfortunately when these get to a certain age, you have to ask yourself, if it,s worth spending money on. When you can pick up a good second hand laptop cheap enough.

Hope this points you in the right direction.
