Re: WATER LEAK FROM FILTER
It sounds as if the filter head is broken after the check vavle since it doesnt leak until filter is installed or bypass plug. one thing you may check before you call for service is remove the filter head cover and check to see if a water line is pulled loose otherwise I recomend you call GE for warranty service. thanks peyton

Shut off water supply valve. Relieve water pressure by dispensing water. Unscrew water filter. Examine to see if the gasket is damaged or if filter was loose and just needed tightening. Or simply replace water filter with the correct water filter that your GE refrigerator calls for.
obviously a filter leak. the water shuts off when the filter is removed. either it wasn't installed properly or it has a bad gasket. as for the fridge getting warm, the water probably collected and froze to the evaporator coils and now resrticts the cold air flow. you need to turn off the fridge, empty it out, leave the freezer door open, and let the coils defrost on their own. or remove the back panel in the freezer and defrost the coils with a hair dryer. you will need to soak up some water, but not nearly as much. once it's defrosted, dry it out, close the doors and turn it on while it's empty. when it's cold enough, replace the food.
Hi there is a grommet you can replace.
#WR02X10678 it is about $7.00 It can help seal the plug sometimes. Ge does want you to buy the whole filter assembly it is number #WR17X11618 $51.50 . You may also consider putting a new filter in. It seals better than the plug it is number #gwf $42.95. I dont know why they dont sell a o-ring kit. I guess they just dont make much money on o-rings. I hope this will help you. Have a nice day.
