From what I have read, there should not be any problems using MP tapes with
a D8 camcorder, except one article which said the quality would not be as
high. To me digital recording is ones and zeros and with ECC it is possible
to recover lost bits so even if the tape does drop a few bits, the output
would be just as good as a shooting using Hi8 tape (?)
I have not tried it yet, but if anyone has, what were the results? Is it
worth it using "inferior" tape?
TIA
Jean

We've tested out the 8mm tape with our D8 cams and found that we
saw a couple of random drop outs in playback. They never turned
up in the same place, however. (By same place, I mena in the
same time code range.) We have yet to see a drop out with good
quality Hi-8 tapes. Also, 8mm tapes do not seem to hold up
with linear editing (i.e., tape to tape). Other than that, the 8
mm tapes worked fine.

I just returned from vacation, and I shot my video footage with a Sony Digital
Hi8 (TRV103 I 'm not 100% of the model #, I returned it). I used the Hi8
Digital tapes, but ran out, and in the Dominican Republic, I was just happy to
get an 8MM tape. It worked out ok, the quality is good, the only difference was
that a few effects were not available to use on the non digital tape (I have no
need for special effects is th ecamera anyway). Only thing is that you CANNOT
replay any footage captured on a digital Hi8 in a regular Hi8 deck. So be aware
of that. Other than that, it was no problem

Check the sony site & your manual
8mm tapes are OK but may cause problems if played on another machine
i.e. 8 years time when yours is worn out & you have interference on
your precious christening video.
