Why does my computer on bootup ask for system password then locks up too many attempts?

If you mean Bios password try this:
Resetting the BIOS PSSWRD, Open the computer case and look inside on the motherboard. Dell has diagrams of this. Locate the Little Jumper. It should have small print if you can read on the mother board indicating PSSWRD CLR. Boot the computer to Setup. Carefully remove jumper, becareful of static, and then once removed hit enter. Shutdown the computer, and restart and enter Setup again F2. The password should be CLR. Turn OFF and PUT Jumper back into place and Turn Back ON. You should be able to access Setup.

If you then boot to setup-check your hard drives and floppy that are seen. You may solve those issues in setup.

If you mean the windows password: boot to F8 safe mode and log
on to the ADMINISTRATOR not your log in that has admin rights.
Disable all passwords and restart.

Restore administrator without disk on pc emachine

Without reset disk, well, there are still many other ways to reset windows password. For example, unlock Windows password with Windows built-in Administrator account.
Here's how this admin unlocks forgotten Windows password:
Start your computer and wait for the Windows Login or Welcome Screen. Once it shows, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice and then type Administrator in the pop-up username box, but leave the password column blank. Next you could successfully log onto system. The following steps for resetting the forgotten password are quite easy. You can make it from "Start->Control Panel->Users Accounts".

Help to restore the computer to normal (Bios Password)

RTM - Read The Manual

I found the info below in your manual online. You will need to reset the jumper on the motherboard to remove the password.

Admin Password (Not Set default)
Displays the current status of your system setup
programs password security feature and allows you to
verify and assign a new admin password. The Admin
Password may be disabled by a jumper on the system

Get online and got to In the google search box type: "Dell Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for Manuals and search them for Passwords.

Clearing Forgotten Passwords (the manual shows a picture of this)

1 Remove the computer cover.
2 Locate the 2-pin password jumper (PSWD) on the system board. By
default, Pin1 and Pin2 should be connected. You will need to remove the
jumper and boot the system, as follows.
3 Remove the jumper.

4 Replace the computer cover.
5 Connect your computer and monitor to electrical outlets, and turn them on.
6 After the Microsoft Windows desktop appears on your computer, shut down your computer.
7 Turn off the monitor and disconnect it from the electrical outlet.
8 Disconnect the computer power cable from the electrical outlet, and press the power button to ground the system board.

9 Open the computer cover.
10 Locate the 2-pin password jumper (PSWD) on the system board and
attach the jumper to reenable the password feature.
11 Replace the computer cover.
NOTICE To connect a network cable, first plug the cable into the network wall jack and then plug it into the computer.
12 Connect your computer and devices to electrical outlets, and turn them on.
NOTE This procedure enables the password feature. When you enter system setup (see "Entering System Setup" on page 79), both system and administrator password options appear as Not Set meaning that the password feature is enabled but no password is assigned.
13 Assign a new system and or administrator password. Replace the computer cover.

NOTICE To connect a network cable, first plug the cable into the network device and then plug it into the computer.
14 Connect your computer and devices to electrical outlets, and turn them on.

How do i bypass the primary drive lock password

On the mainboard near the coin battery you'll find a jumper. take it off and reboot. Replace it and reboot again. that works sometimes. If not you can go to the motherboards' BIOS like Phoenix and they have backdoors built in. Read on:
Backdoor passwords Many BIOS manufacturers have provided backdoor passwords that can be used to access the BIOS setup in the event you have lost your password. These passwords are case sensitive, so you may wish to try a variety of combinations. Keep in mind that the key associated to "_" in the US keyboard corresponds to "?" in some European keyboards. Laptops typically have better BIOS security than desktop systems, and we are not aware of any backdoor passwords that will work with name brand laptops.
WARNING: Some BIOS configurations will lock you out of the system completely if you type in an incorrect password more than 3 times. Read your manufacturers documentation for the BIOS setting before you begin typing in passwords
Award BIOS backdoor passwords:
AMI BIOS backdoor passwords:
PHOENIX BIOS backdoor passwords:

I have a linksys PAP2-NA VoIP adapter. I want to lend to my customers but want to lock the access to admin so they cannot see my settings

Hi rajahc,

That's easy (as long as your voip provider didn't locked it themselves), just log-in to your PAP2's setup page and set the user and or admin password under the system tab. Hope this helps

Cheers and best regards,
