No aero effecst

Make sure you have at least 2GB of Ram Memory, and you need a graphics card. Aeroglass for Vista requires a lot of 'graphics power'.

The motherboard chipset is an Intel 845G.
The Intel 865G has Intel Extreme Graphics, for it's integrated graphics on the motherboard,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Pentium_4_chipsets

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Extreme_Graphics#Early_graphics

Not going to cut it when trying to use Aeroglass.

You can use an AGP 8X graphics card,

http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d865glc/BFLC_English.pdf

This is but one example,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129247

I would also recommend an Intel Pentium 4 processor, not Celeron, and 2GB of 400MHz DDR Sdram ram memory, (PC3200)

Or someday you may wish to use Ubuntu Linux instead, and the Compiz Fusion window manager, instead of Aeroglass,

Mike,

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/How-to-Overclock-a-Socket-775-Pentium-4/198

From Gabriel Torres and Daniel Barros,

"On Intel i915P, and i925x chipsets, Intel created a protection against overclocking, making Pentium 4 processors overclocking extremely difficult."

Read the article.

Point?
Depends on which Intel motherboard chipset series you are talking about, and what in your mind constitutes a 'higher end CPU', for it.

Let's look at the Intel 915 series, and Intel 945 series of motherboard chipsets,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Pentium_4.2FPentium_D.2FPentium_EE_chipsets

Let's start with the Intel 82915P through Intel 82915GV chipsets;

The highest FSB support is 800MegaHertz (Frequency rate)
Highest core technology is Pentium 4, SINGLE-core processors.

Although the Pentium 4's used may use the Socket T processor socket, (LGA 775), the chipsets will not support dual core Intel processors.

Why?
I have to 'bring you up to speed'. This is the easiest way to do it, IMHO,

Now it breaks down to individual Intel Northbridge chipset versions.

[Wait. One, more primer in case you are not aware;

Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit

The motherboard chipset for the chipset series you have listed, uses a Northbridge chip, and a Southbridge chip.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg

The Northbridge chip handles the faster capabilities of a computer.
Handles the Processor, Ram Memory, and HIGH-speed graphics.

A graphics card installed in a PCI expansion slot, is NOT high-speed graphics.
Integrated graphics is NOT high-speed graphics.
High-speed graphics is AGP, and PCI-Express.

The Southbridge chip handles the slower capabilities of a computer.
Handles anything installed in a;

1) PCI Bus: Whether it is in a PCI expansion slot, or Integrated Graphics attached to a PCI Bus.
2) IDE Bus:
3) SATA Bus:
4) USB Bus:
5) Ethernet
6) Audio (Sound)

The Northbridge for Intel is the MCH. Memory Controller Hub.

Hi, I need standard spec info of VGA built on Asus P5GC-MX 1333 whether 64 Mb or 128 Mb. Many thanks & regards, Richard

you can use up to a maximum of 224 mb of your computer's RAM for the onboard video chip to use. You can install a video card with any amount of memory (which would give you a lot better video performance).

aakifshamsi,

Looking at the System Summary page,

http://universaleventz.com/sys.html

1) Scroll down the list, and look under the heading - Memory Summary
The Maximum TOTAL Amount of ram memory that the motherboard will support is 2GB.
2048MB.
(1024MB = 1GB)

This is also supported by the fact that the motherboard uses an Intel 845GL motherboard chipset.
(i845GL. The i stands for Intel)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Pentium_4_chipsets

Looking at the chart in the above link scroll down to 845GL.
Read across to the right, and observe the headings across the top.
Look under the heading - Max.memory
2GB.

The motherboard chipset consists of the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.

(This applies to a motherboard like yours.
Motherboards that support the Intel Core i3, i5, i7, and i9 processors do Not use this older technology)

Motherboard diagram;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg

The Northbridge chip handles the faster capabilities of a computer.
It handles the Processor, Ram Memory, and HIGH-speed graphics.
High-speed graphics being AGP and PCI Express.

A graphics card installed into a PCI slot is Not high-speed graphics. (PCI graphics card)
Integrated Graphics, (OnBoard) is Not high-speed graphics.

The Southbridge chip handles the slower capabilities of the computer.

1) Anything plugged into a PCI slot.
2) Integrated Graphics.
3) IDE or SATA. (Harddrive/s and/or optical drives)
4) USB ports
5) Ethernet port
,and so on.

By knowing what motherboard chipset you have, you have a wealth of information about your motherboard.

As for hooking up a 1TB harddrive internally, yes.
Hook it up as a Slave drive.

Information on adding a second harddrive as a Slave drive,

ASUS P5L-VM 1394 mother

Here is a link to a website that identifies the specs for your motherboard, and also identifies the type of processors that are compatible with your motherboard. It is Intel Core 2 duo/ Intel Core 2 duo Extreme capable.

It looks like you have a good candidate for a gaming pc, in my opinion. I would suggest that you upgrade the memory to its max of 4 GB. This link also has a list of all compatible memory modules for your motherboard, If you click on a memory module, there is an option on the next page to tell you where you can buy it and for how much.
