It runs fine on AC, but soon as I go to battery, about 1min later it just magically goes into standby mode. I have everything setup to not go into standby but it does

SOURCE: frozen eee pc 901

I would guarantee 98% that its your harddrive. I had a similar problem w/ one of my older computers. I installed a new harddrive and that fixed the problem.. Stay away from seagate hds, they are junk.

SOURCE: Asus Eee PC 2G Surf netbook fails to boot into OS

Unfortunately Xandros is a paid (yes, you have read correctly , PAID) Linux distro. You will have to pay to get a Live-USB to reinstall.
Instead you should go here
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,46097.0.html
and follow the instructions to create your own PCLinuxOS (the one i use) Live-USB. You will need another pc for that. After booting from it all you're gonna have to do is to click on the Install icon on the desktop.

SOURCE: how do i reset a eee pc 901

To reset my 901 XP, I remove the battery as shown on page 3-3 of the instruction manual.
The reset button can now be accessed: it is a small shiny metal
plate, about 3mm by 15 mm located on the left of the battery compartment (closest to the LAN port).
Press the metal plate once with a ballpoint.

Lenovo t400 cannot boot. have "z" light only

Hi vincent,

I see that you have a "z" light indicator on the system when powered ON but you see no video on the screen.

The "z" Indicator means that the system is turned ON and ready to use but is in standby mode.

To disable standby mode on your system simply press the FN button for about 5 seconds on the system make sure that the machine is turned ON, this will make you system go back to normal mode.

Note:
For additional info on the issue the system can be put to standby mode by holding down the FN+F4 for a second or two this will enable standby mode on your Thinpad T400 and to disable the standbymode press and hold down FN for 5 seconds.

I hope that this will be of help regarding you concern, have a nice day.

It went asleep and won't wake up. i have to manually shut it down and reboot...

Hello definedeclin,

Try pressing the <Ctrl> + <Alt> + <Del> keys together.
If that doesn't work then the Asus Eee PC 900 user manual has this information:
Click 'Instant Shutdown' and select an action from the dialog box. You can activate the task manager, put the system in standby, restart or shut down the system.

Here's a link to download the ... user manual (zip file):
