Question about X2Gen MG 15MY 15.4 inch LCD Monitor

1 Answer

While online I looked up at monitor and noticed a very slight, very slight wavering or vibration in the screen. I was tired and thought it was just me...few minutes later, a funny smell, like melting plastic - very feint. Then, blam, screen went black, smell got stronger. I tried to turn back on, no luck. I didn't like the smell, so I immediately unplugged it...and this is where I am.

Aloha triloknath - thanks for the suggested solution! At the risk of sounding completely stupid - where do I find the 'voltage stabilizer'? Sorry...I just stare at these things, don't know squat about them!

You may have a bad cable or the cable is running too close to a power supply or power cable. This can cause distortion and shadowing. Try moving or replacing the cables or the monitor to make sure it's away from any power sources.

Monitor Problems

A pink or red tint indicated that florescent back light bulbs that light up the monitor are going out. When they start to die they out out red or pink light instead of white light like they should. They bulbs are replaceable but not easy for someone not familiar with this type of repair. Parts would run about $30 plus shipping and are available online but it may not be worth the repair on the monitor due to age.

It probably isn't worth repairing as the cost will exceed what you would spend on replacing it.

OUt of Range

"Out Of Range" means your video adapter is set to a resolution/refresh rate setting that is outside the range of supported signals.

Go into your Video Adapter's settings, look at resolution then the refresh rate (Hertz), and compare to those supported by the monitor.

When I had a similar problem, I noticed that somehow, the refresh rate was set at 59HZ which is unsupported. After changing to 60HZ (which is supported) the problem went away.

Severe noise on monitor when viewing white area

Although I still have the problem to a slight extent (very slight wavering of the vertical lines going from dark to light or white) reducing the contrast from 100% to 80% seemed to do the trick. Although this monitor is on the way out, it has lasted about 7-8 years now, at least it will keep going for a while.

Creeping black pixel line.

Hi mrtaz187,
Well it sounds like the monitor pixels are starting to fail. Once you notice the pixels starting to fail, you will probably notice that over time it get worse. I had the same problem on one of my monitors too. I think it's time to replace that monitor. On the good side, new monitors are relatively inexpensive. You might think about getting a name brand for your new monitor too as it will usually have a warranty for problems like this in the future.

Hope that helps,

Take care,
Michael

LCD Monitor Repair

With the computer on and the monitor connected, shine a flashlight at a slight angle on the screen and see if you can make out a picture. If you can, then it is most likely the ccfl inverter, if not possibly the power supply of the monitor.
