Changing Bulb In Big Screen

I'm looking to purchase a big screen tv. The seller states that the bulbs need replacing. Is this something that I can do myself or do I have to get a technician? If I can do it myself, is it costly?

I have a 1994 zenith big screen the picture is showing really dar

It could be that the picture tubes have gone down on emission, there is a prcedure that can be tried to bring up the overall brightness but it is just possible that you will loose some picture quality. If it's a 1994 projo tv i am thinking of the three crt system, a gray scale alignment would probably correct the dark condition in your picture, again depending on how far gone is the emission in your picture tubes, if your projo tv is the dlp system, the bad news is that you could be needing some light engine repair. The color adjustment is possible with the availability of a service manual or in the case of the dlp system, light engine repairs or replacement are available from some on line stores.

JVC HD-56G886 56INCH REAR PROJECTION TV

I fixed it!!!! If you can open one of the sides (on the JVC there is a little door with a screw), then you can clean the projector lense in the middle on the bottom. It kind of looks like a big light bulb. It seems there is just dust on the glass that is projected onto the screen. We had a big gray spot and cleaned it with a damp glass cloth and Ouila! It disappeared. I scored MAJOR brownie points with my husband for this one! He wanted to replace the TV!

Replace bulb for Sony KF50WE610

Sorry for the delay...out of town!

To clarify, I replaced the LAMP that has a bulb in it....all one unit.
Located in the bottom front panel underneath the on and off button.
You're supposed to loosen the (2) big plastic looking screws on the bottom back of the screen. There should be one on the bottom right & bottom left. The ones on my tv were easily taken off with my hands. Plus, three small screws needs removing in the rear from each end ( left & right side) after you do that, go to the front of the tv. take off the bottom plastic piece below the tv screen.

Click here to download the instructions on how to replace the lamp.

I purchase my lamp from: ProjectorQuest an Excellent company spoken with company rep.name John a very nice guy. http://www.projectorquest.com/product_info.php?products_id=1664
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Dim picture from one broken lamp??

The red CRT is most likely not the culprit. If water got on to any of the boards such as the red CRT driver board it could damage it wich also at the same time can load down voltages (200 volts etc) that can have a global affect on the other CRT's. Changing any on the CRT's by the average consumer is NOT recommended because you are dealing with a device that requires 30 KV (thats thirty thousand) volts to make it light up. Take these as warnings and consult with a technician.
