Question about Sony VAIO VGN-N130G/W Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-N130G and about 3 months ago, the cd/dvd RW started acting a bit goofy, so I googled some stuff and the best answer I got was to lower my burn speed when trying to burn CD's or trying to get a new program other then Windows Media Player. So I lowered the burn speed to the lowest it could go. It worked. But recently, it acts like it's burning, but it's not doing anything. It doesn't even give me any errors through Windows Media, but the cd is not getting any info on it at all. It seems like the CD is still being ''closed'' however. Also, I tried putting in my Recovery discs and it wouldn't boot from the disc either... any ideas? Running Windows XP SP2

Sounds like you have a faulty CD/DVD RW drive.
You may be able to get a replacement under warranty.

I have done a Windows clean install on my Sony Vaio VGN-AR71J and now all the Hotkeys dont work. I'm sure it is a driver problem as I saw it on various forums some monthes ago. All the fixes looked risky....

Hi cellarman

Yes you are right, you need to install some software, either drivers or application software you can get from the CD/DVD that came with your laptop. If you did not get a driver disk or system restore CD/DVD maybe you made one when you first got it. This would insatll all the drivers and save you a lot of time and effort.
If you want to install just the Operating System (OS) and build up from there, you can down load drivers from here-Please note, you need to know if your OS is 32 bit or 64 bit.

Please note you need to be on the 'Originally Installed tab'
It is hard to see what software looks after the Hotkeys
1. Appmon - 2.3
2. Original Utilities Package
3.Pointing Device / Touchpad Driver

Lokk at the far right to see if it is 32 bit or 64 bit or both. DO NOT use 32 bit in a 64 bit system and vice versa.

All the best now, Phil

Try booting the computer from a bootable CD or DVD. If it boots from the CD or DVD without restarting then they is a problem with you OS (operating system software). You'll have to reload your OS.

DVD RW driver won't work "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" It seems to be related to my iTunes software as I have removed iTunes and was able to fix it once. DVD RW AW G540A ATA

go into "device manager" and unistall the CD/DVD from the menu, then restart your computer, if its vista you are using just let vista pick up the device and it will install the drivers for you, then try do use the DVD
hope this helps and regards
