A thin vertical blue line appears on my high definition television screen in the same location on the right side of the screen during the playback of blu ray DVDs using the HDMI cable and also when the Panasonic blu ray player is connected using the component video connectors. The blue line is not always solid, sometimes part of it appears and disappears, but the blue line is in the same location on the screen. Any recommendations for repair? Thank you.

okay my friend your tv vertical circuit is begining to get faulty you could be having some bad caps or the vertical ic is defected have a tech check your tv for repairs.if you are not a tech you cannot repair the set by your self.good luck.
I would look for a Vertical circuit failure. Most likely is the vertical output IC and or open resistor off the hv transformer. Definitely look for any loose solder connections around the Vertical output IC.
Hope this helps,
Those lines are called retrace lines. They are there all the time on projection TVs but you should be able to see them. When you do see them, that's an indication that the kine screen settings are too high or the supply voltage to the kine driver circuit is low or missing. There is a small, black control unit located behind the speaker grill assy in the front of the TV that has 2 sets of 3 controls. A red, blue, and green focus and screen controls. See if you can make the lines dissappear by turning the screen controls counterclockwise. If you can't you'll need to have service come out to troubleshoot it.
Unfortunately the LCD is going faulty.. one or more of the "Driver" transistors that operates the LCD elements RGB, have faulted ON.. perhaps this link may help fix it. Otherwise :(
What you have described is definitely some form of Electrical Interference. Interference can come from a variety of causes. Is the Cable Inputting the Cable Box close to some High Voltage Electrical Lines? Or Are you located near some Electrical Power Station? Or A Police station, where the Radio Transmitter of the Police Station causing the Interference? As I said, there are a variety of reasons. Also, Try to check if the connector is loose at the rear of the Cable Box, or at the rear of the TV.
You will have to eliminate every possibility reason.
Wish i could help further.
I would suspect a connection breaking down as the set heats up. A shop will probably have to put the set in a stand to hold it while they check for loose connections or defective components inside. Not a DIY job by any means. If this line went completely through the picture either vertically or horizontally and stayed there then this would have indicated a failure in the Panel itself. A thin Line any where on the screen consisting of one pixel in width is a Panel Failure according to Hitachi.
