Hi,

Here is a link to your manual.

Pavilion Manual

Go to page 114-116 and read about replacing RAM. You will get an idea where the RAM is from the pictures. They are the chips that are about 1 inch wide and 5 inches long.

Some notes:
1) Make sure you replace with RAM that is compatible. Go to www.crucial.com and run a scan. It will tell you what you have, what you need, and maximum capacity.

2) Make sure you remove power from the computer. Remove the power cord. Then press and hold the "ON" button for 5 seconds to drain the capacitors in the computer. Discharge any static electricity in your body by touching the metal part of the computer case.

3) Make sure the RAM is securely seated in the slots. The tabs should "lock" into the slots on the RAM modules.

Good luck. If you need more help, just comment back.

The RAM slots are near on the processor you can see it will snap when everytime you put the RAM or memory. you can also refer your motherboards manual for the information that you wanted. there is a direction and specification of RAM in the manual.

thank you for using fixya

My hp pavilion a1140n has 4G RAM installed but only shows 3.11G my copmuter, properties. I've tried different orders of installation/configuration of cards and I get 2G, 3G, 3.11G. Anyone know why?

The system probably uses some of the ram for the onboard video/on board sound...also known as shared memory. If you go to the BIOS setup..you should be able to see what the total memory is and what shares this memory

1 long beep 2 short beep continous beep

This POST beep code (power on self test) means you could have problems with :-
  • System board failure OR
  • Video adapter problem OR
  • LCD assembly failure
Try reseating the RAM module/s (the video uses shared RAM ie. part of the main RAM module/s).
Try reseating the video cable/connector (if the computer is a desktop then try reseating the video card and/or a different one).

HP d330 fried during pwr serge, fixed, boots but no screen signal

there are several possibilities. 1. replace the ram, make sure that its a good working ram module. 2. review all your work from system board to power supply. 3. try running it temporarily without the cmos battery. 4. check your monitor. 5. check your VGA. 6. retry and retry.
