Question about Canon PIXMA MX700 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I have a Canon MX700. I tried to send a fax then realized I did not have the phone line plugged in. Plugged in phone line and rescanned fax, said it was in auto-redial xx8 (flashed between the auto-redial and numbers) It would not let me power off in front so plugged the power line out and then back in. Now it says it is in standby mode and cannot get it out of that mode. I have tried the settings, fax button, black 'print' buttong and stop/reset. All to no avail. Any ideas?
Try removing the ink and printhead, turn printer off and then on. If printer asks you for the printhead, then ink, then you may have just gotten a working printer again. I hope this works.

There are 2 ports on the rear, 1 for the incomming phone line, and one to plug in a telephone handset (passthrough) if the telephone line is plugged into the wrong port, the fax machine is unable to dial properly, So try plugging into the other port on the back, it's just next to the other port hope this helps

My MP830 did the same thing today. I thought it was toast. However through a Google search I found the following suggestion.
Unplug the MP830 for 20 minutes or more. Plug the MP830 back in and hit the power button.
To might great relief my MP830 powered up and is working just fine.

SOURCE: Pixma MP530 Fax Problems
I am having a similar problem. You do have to connect your phone to the jack in the machine in the "Phone" jack slot, as well as have another line out to the jack in the wall in the "L" slot. That is all I know. I am having problems with my voicemail. Either I can received voicemail, and no faxes, or faxes, and no voicemail (fax picks up at specified number of rings). It is EXTREMELY frustrating. The machine is *supposed* to be able to discern between phone calls and faxes..and that is not happening.
Have you come across a solution? Aghhhhh!

SOURCE: canon mx700 fax report problems
after emailing canon support, the answer is this: 1) the fax paper size must be "letter" - 8.5-11". 2) reset all settings through settings menu. the fax will then print reports (and also every report that was not printed before).
