Question about HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC Desktop
There is a well known problem with the graphics card, which suffers from over-heating. You can buy a replacement card (very expensive) or remove the failed card and then attach the monitor feed to the output from the (unused) onboard graphics card. You lose some 3D capabilities, but in normal use you won't know the difference.
This process is described on HP Touchsmart Dev Zone website.

Your heat sink fan might be malfunctioning. This is a known problem. But even though HP knows it, they still won't support answering any questions about it. Because the computer gets too hot, it shuts down. Unfortunately, calling HP won't do any good. The state that there is only one fan in an HP IQ770 and this is not true. If they give you a part number for a fan, you'll purchase the wrong part. What you want is the heat sink that comes with a fan. Run part number 5188-7284 through Google. You can find fans for $50 - $100 (usually from the UK). HP gives out the wrong part number as they don't consider the one attached to the heat sink to be a fan. If you ask how many fans it has, they will state "only one." This is not true.
