I want to update my bios

The information tells me;

1) Operating System: Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3 (SP/3)

2) Processor: (CPU) Intel Pentium 4, 3.06GHz,
(Or also stated as 3.066MegaHertz) {3.066MHz}

Front Side Bus = 133MHz.

SUGGESTION: Are you looking for a BIOS upgrade?

System BIOS is more than 2 years old. (WELL NO KIDDING!!)

Video BIOS is more than 2 years old. (Yeah? AND?)

A) AS SOON as you purchase a motherboard, the BIOS program is ALREADY out of date.

BIOS upgrades are made about 2 weeks, after the motherboard hits the market.

TWO WEEKS!!

What does this mean?

It means LEAVE IT ALONE.

If everything is working OK, DO NOT perform a BIOS upgrade.

Why?

Because for;
1) IF, the power goes out to your house/business, when you are downloading, the BIOS upgrade WILL NOT be completed.
What does that mean?
Take the motherboard out of your computer, and use it for a Frisbee.

2) IF, the BIOS upgrade is too new, and/or NOT compatible, AND if you do not save the old BIOS version, take the motherboard out of your computer, and use it for a Frisbee.

IS there a cure for ruining the BIOS program in your BIOS chipset, on your motherboard, and downloading, and installing the original one?

SURE!

Take it to a PRO, who will download the ORIGINAL BIOS, to a Floppy Disk, (Or disks), using an internal Floppy Disk drive, connected with a floppy disk ribbon cable, to your floppy drive connection on your motherboard, and put it on your motherboard.

MAYBE.

(Not shouting. Illustrating a point)

OR, if the BIOS chipset is removable, (It is soldered on the motherboard), perhaps another BIOS chipset is available, for a PRO to solder the good one back on the motherboard.

You HAVE been advised.

What is a serial port and where is it on the p67 mb


a serial port is a 9 pin (DB-9) connector for serial communication (RS232) used by modems, mouse, etc... In older machines you had a DB-25 (25 pin connector) as well usually situated in the back of the computer near the printer port (DB-25 connector) but femail (25 holes insdead of 25 pins)

What are the different parts of a motherboard?


The motherboard or PCB (Primary Circuit Board) is responsible for connecting all computer devices to the microprocessor. It supplies devices with power and allows the computer to react with them, Devices that can be used by connecting to the motherboard are: Storage devices, sound cards, graphic cards and hard disks.
Devices or components that are needed to make the computer work as it should, are inbuilt within the motherboard or can be connected to it using a socket or port. Listed below are sockets and ports that are available on the motherboard for connecting devices and , what that they are capable of doing.
PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) slot: Supports peripherals like sound cards, DVD decoders, and graphic accelerators with 32 bits at 33Mhz capabilities. There are usually anywhere from 1 to 6 PCI slots available on the motherboard.
AGP (Accelerated Graphic Port): This provides fast bus speed connectivity along with fast access to the main memory. It is designed for video cards that demand higher bandwidth.
Chipset-North Bridge: An integrated circuit that has special duties.
CPU (Central Processing Unit) socket: A socket specifically for connecting your computer processor.
DIMM (Double Inline Memory Module) slots, SIMM (Single Inline Memory Module) and RIMM: Different types of memory (RAM) can be installed into these slots.

Parallel or (LPT) port: The place used to connect scanners and printers.
Game Port: The port to connect all gaming devices for example, a joystick.

How-to use the serial port header on DG31PR motherboard?


I tried this serial port using a simple connector that i found in another computer. its a simple straight cable. It's configuration is little different means pin configuration is change. I am developing a robot that will receive data from serial port, but it damaged one of IC (MAX232) on PCB. when i checked the voltage level i was surprised that its not simple +- 5 V its almost 24 volt.

Motherboard crashed


The main thing is to find out what type the processor socket is.
Then buy a board with the same socket, and that can take the same ram type. This is your board so any equivelent should be fine.

What motherboard would you like to know the layout of? Although, many motherboards are different, most of them have the same basic parts. From back to front, you have the communication ports; (usually from top to bottom, varies by manufacturer)mouse/keyboard, usb 1.0/1.1/2.0(make and model dependant) serial, paralell, vga/monitor, then sound: midi, headphone/speaker out, line out, microphone in.
then on the board, processor, somewhere near it, cache, i/o chip, north bride chip, wich is responsable for memory(ram) access, ide(cd rom/ hard drive access) ports and power connector/s,
memory slots
then the south bridge chip witch controls isa port(old), pci slot, agp/pci-e slot (video card) along with the cmos battery, bios, and various other slots/connectors (such as fan, power button and so on) and chips, wich vary by manufacturer and model.
