Question about BenQ FP731 - 17" LCD Monitor

Benq FP731 LCD not start up, only green power lamp

My Benq FP731 LCD not start up, only green power lamp, no picture at all. I have tried to open the back cover to check what would be wrong. But after I removed all the 7 screws and the seat, I still could not open the cover. It was so tight. I had even opened ca. more than 1 cm slits, it automatically closed again after I released my hand. I am not sure should I apply more force to open it, or is there any screw more behind?

Yes, I have tried my old CTR (I hope I spelled correctly) monitor, It works perfect. My BenQ FP731 was working perfect for almost 4 years. One day I wanted to power up computer as usual, but the monitor can not start up, only have the green lamp on.

Opening it will not likely solve your problem. Have you tried another monitor on the computer to see if the problem may be with the computer itself?

Even if you watch 10 video clips of LCD monitor disassembly at YOUTUBE, you will not find it very easy to do!! Do not use ANY sharp cutting instruments to "PART" the rear cover from the front bezel. One carless slip and it's a trip to local hospital "ER" to be sewed back together!!! Protect the GLASS lcd panel at ALL COSTS. YOU CRACK-IT, YOU BOUGHT IT, YOU OWN-IT, TOYOTA!!! 12fixlouie

My benq monitor worked for a couple of years then one day it just stopped. FP731 17". I get the green power light but nothing on the screen. Hooked up a different monitor to the computer and it works...

It is almost the same as DELL monitor (BenQ makes monitors for Dell and HP), so look for shorted transistors, cold solder joint, fuse.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Where can I find instructions on replacing the backlight on benq fp731?

jsiwiec, Are you absolutly certain that the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" need replacing, or if the "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter supply" is not working and is in shutdown mode? CCFL's are not some kind of miniature version of those energy efficient screw-in new style, curlie-Q cfl light bulbs you buy at the local home-center!!! In any case here are some places to checkout first. www.ccfldirect.com ,
www.teliostech.com , www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm , www.lcdparts.net, www.lcdrepair.us You do know that most times the problem is not the lamps. Did your LCD display have bright, crisp, colorful images displayed on the lcd panel 2- 3 days before black screen happened? How many TOTAL "ON" hours of use on this BenQ FP731 ? When was unit produced? Good luck with repair. Hope info was helpful.
